Is there a relation to appendix issues and hysterectomy?

I am slowly getting back to my normal self. I have to be careful about what I eat because I get really bad gas pains and bloating but nothing like before. I also still have swelly belly but considering the condition I was in.......I am not surprised and nor is my doctor.

Is there a relation to appendix issues and hysterectomy?

I had my appendix out when I was 16. I was in the hosptial longer when I had my appendix out then when I had my hyster. Kind of strange since I only had my appendix removed due to a appendicitis but had everything taken out with my hyster. When my Dr & I were discussing the surgery he said he would look at my appendix & may remove it. I told him I already had that done.

I'm sorry I did forget to come back here and let you guys know.
My doctor said the pain I was having was normal healing...SOOO, I've left it go. Then, about 4 days ago, I was leaning up against the kitchen counter and felt the sharp pain again in bottom lower right abdomen, I felt there and it seems to be more swollen than on the left side, there is a noticeable "bump" area. It doesn't hurt anymore unless I bump it against something or lean into something, which is wierd, BUT, I was going to give myself to the end of this week and if it still hurts when I push on it, I'm calling him again and making him do an ultrasound or whatever test there is to see if something is wrong. Really, I thought I would be all healed by now, LOL.
I was looking up symptoms of appendicitis and it just doesn't sound like that's what it is, so I kept telling myself my doc was right, I still need to heal some, but its been almost 3 months since surgery!

When I had my appendix it came on strong and I was intense pain. I couldn't sit, lay down, or stand without crying & feeling like I was going to pass out. I was vomiting and diarrhea too. You couldn't even touch my side without me screaming. In my case when they did the surgery it was enlarged. The Dr cut it and it burst in his hand. If it bursts inside you it is pretty serious. I would call your Dr again & request an appointment to be sure.

Hopefully this helps you. I hope you don't have one!

You know what that sounds like? A hernia.

Sister444:
I had my appendix out about 12 years ago. I had my hyst. on Jan 31, but I still have some of the pain you describe and tomorrow I will be 3 mo. out from surgery. One side is very tender to the left of my incision, but you are right about the area. If I still had my appendix, I would think that was it.
My doctor told me there might be a tear in the fascia, but didn't seem too concerned... Is that the same as a hernia?

Hmmm, never thought of a hernia. Maybe I should suggest that to my doc?
PattiO, I don't know what a tear in the fascia is either, actually not even completely certain on what an actual hernia is, a torn muscle bulging or something?
My doc was like yours, didn't seem too concerned, which made me feel at ease at the time, thinking it would go away, but hasn't.
Do hernias have to be repaired or do they heal on their own? Oh, the things we must go through!

Hernia's are repaired by surgery. My husband had one when he as about 12 years old and he has another one (doctor found it), but hasn't scheduled for it yet. It gives him mild discomfort every once in awhile, but not severe pain, so him nor the doctor seem super concerned about getting the surgery scheduled.

A hernia is usually a bulge out of a muscular wall.
