could it be ovarian cancer

My story is crazy, in 2001 while i was pregnant with my second child i was told that my pap test came back unusual (never did before) I was only 29 years old. They said dont worry its probably nothing. Went to a specialist did a biopsy and it came back CIN III the stage before cancer. they told me that they think my pregnancy accellerated the precancer cells. They told me to have a tubal ligation and remove the precancer from my cervix ,so i did because i was done having children. Then in 2004 another pap test came back CIN I . They told me that i needed a hysterectomy. So I did but left my overies and what was left of my tubes. Now im having a heavy feeling in my pelvic area, strong lower back pain, urinary problems (all the classic signs of Ovarian Cancer) my mothers 2 cousins and one of their daughters had overian cancer and the surgeries. I fear that once again im at risk for cancer. Is anyone there to help me i feel like i need more personal accounts on ovarian cancer. not website generic info.

Well, I didn't have any symptoms, if that makes you feel any better. I'm sorry I cant be of more help.

Does your doctor know your limited family history of ovca? Have you had a CA125 test (a blood test for a protein that is sometimes helpful in ovca)? When was your last pelvic exam?

I'd start by expressing my fears to the doctor - maybe get a CT scan and the CA125.

I know that my back hurts from the hysterectomy. It seems to be a somewhat common pain. Still its not one to disregard.

Talk to your doc. If you don't like the answers you are getting, get a second opinion.

Take care disney!

With your family and personal history, run don't walk to your dr. I would think that in any case they would be ready to run tests if only to ease your mind. I'm sorry you are expreiencing this but waiting shouldn't even be an option for you. Early detection is still your best bet no matter what!

I agree with the other post because of you past and your family history you need to get checked out ASAP. I had my pap come back abnormal in August and did not get my cancer diagnosis until November. My surgery for TAH/BSO was in January. All my test from my surgery came back good and they got the cancer. One of the main reasons I had my doctor go ahead and take the ovaries is because ovarian cancer without a uterus and cervix is so hard to detect. I have read so many post from women who had surgery but kept the ovaries and are now back with a complication or problem related to the ovaries, the only reason I added this is because there will be many other women who are going through similar experiances and I know how much reading these post helped me. I say to you to make sure you get answers!! ask a million ? and make them give you the answers you need. I am so sorry you have to deal with this again. Good luck to you, keep us all informed!! here is a great big for you.

dear disney...i'm so sorry you are living with that fear again. you won't know anything until you have the surgery, so hang in there. i did not have the symptoms you're having...no pain or heaviness whatsoever...my symptom was post-menopausal spotting. in hindsight, maybe the urination at night (2 or 3 times) and more frequent b.m.'s were symptoms, who knows (and also gaining weight/fat around my middle)...i thought it just came with age and drinking tea at bedtime.

it's such a sneaky disease. the first detection i had was from a transvaginal ultrasound, then c.t. scan confirmed an ovarian mass. you will probably have these tests and perhaps a ca125. please consult with a gyn/onc considering your history.

good luck to you and i hope you will come back and let us know how you're doing...ask any questions, etc.

Hi Disney,

I too suggest that you follow up with your doctor. A transvaginal ultrasound will be a good indicator of what's going on . If he sees something suspicious, ask him to refer you to a gynecological oncologist.
As you may have heard on this site before, they are the experts when it comes to dealing with gynecological cancers, and will know exactly what to do to give you the best chance of being cancer free for a long time.

Due to your family history, follow up and close watching definetly is in order here. Please let us know what the has to say.
