BM question (sorry if this is gross)

I had my surgery on 3/10, came home from the castle on 3/13th, and didn't have my first BM until Sat or Sun. Here's what my doc had me on......it was pain free and considering the type of surgery I had.....this was a big deal for me.

1. 1 tbls. mineral oil at bed time.
2. Surfac (stool softener) twice a day but never within two hours of the mineral oil.
3. She gave me this thing called a "red robin" (I know this sounds weird and gross but it worked). It's a big syringe with a long red tube attached. Filled with warm water, insert the tube you-know-where, and trust me you will go!

Good luck.....it will come when it's ready. The point is to keep it soft so when you do go it lessens the pain and won't cause too much bleeding.

BM was only problem so far.

I am 2 weeks post-op( tuesday) . And by 5 days had no BM. If I had to do over, I would have bought stool softener and began taking as so as I got home. I was miserable.

Okay....I'm losing my mind! I was just surfing through the threads looking for something to make a comment on (cause that is just how pathetic my life is these days) and I came across this from Nicoler76 and you can't imagine what when through my head when I opened a thread about BMs and then saw the words "slab", "good", and "creamy". Man, I had to read that one again. LOL

BM question (sorry if this is gross)

If you did a bowel prep before surgery it most likely cleaned you out so that it takes a bit of time for something to be there to come out. I tried to stay away from stimulants as it hurt bad enough without extra cramping action. Many of the sisters recommended Milk of Magnesia and so I tried that (cherry flavored which actually was fine, not bad at all). And best of all, it worked very well without cramping. I had been walking and eating the things that should have worked but for me MOM was the ticket. You just have to experiment a bit to find your ticket but you will get there and be 'moving' just fine before you know it!

11 days post-op still taking colace and prune juice every couple days. Wow it still hurts to go. However, I am going every couple days something to be happy about.

Is anyone else experiencing pain while having BM this many days post-op?

BM question (sorry if this is gross)

Hey,

Yes I am also 11 days post op. At first it took 9 days post op to have BM, I had bowel prep b4 surgery, then was very sick in castle (couldnt eat for many days, threw up everything) I came home day 6 and ate better, by day 7 I was miserable took childrens senecot (I am small) that didnt help for a couple of days, problem is I went from no BM to having D... I really hurts too, like I feel pain and pressure and pulling when I have to go and during, very uncomfortable. So now I have had the runs for 3 days, I am back to being Nausious (SP?) all the time dr has me on compazine.

I also have a question about how long pain meds should be used? And why is there pain during BM, and before, and after?

C~

BM question (sorry if this is gross)

my bottle of colace said you can take up to 3 (100mg each) a day..so take 3 all at once like the bottle says you can..and drink a bunch of water too & walk...good luck, it will eventually happen..perhaps your pain med is making you C.
