Why Do Doctors Do This Differently?

I am having a TVH with a spinal tap. My GYN says he has not done a TAH in over a year. He also told me he always uses a spinal tap because it gives less complications.

Yet I read on this Forum that so many are having a TAH and general anesthesia.

Anyone know why there is such a difference in approaches?

Is one better than the other?

Thanks.

Why Do Doctors Do This Differently?

Surgeons are all different, with different abilities and experience, and are using different hospitals with different anesthesiologists and support systems.

I have read where others have had the epidural anesthesia and have done very well with it.

Concerning the TAH/TVH, each of us is different. I had several surgeries previous to my hysterectomy, and as a result had adhesions which were sticking lots of my internal "parts" together. A TAH offerred the best way to go in and clean some of it up. My surgeon normally used the vaginal surgeries when no other complications were there.

So, is one better than the other? It will vary from patient to patient, and Dr to Dr.

s and Best Wishes,
Kay

In my case, a TAH was performed due to pre-cancerous cells. My ob/gyn said that he could see the state of my ovaries uterus better doing it this way.
