Anyone else have terrible pain from Trach Tube insertion?

I had my TAH 3/11/08, and woke up with terrible throat pain (along with the painful tummy). My GYN said that the anesthesiologist struggled to insert my trach tube for over 1 1/2 hrs... longer than it took for my actual surgery!
She said it was painful to watch and that next time I need general anesthesia I will need a laparoscopic-assisted tube insertion.
Is this terribly unusual? No one else seems to be complaining of this on here, I feel all alone. I have been on a liquid diet until today, but I still feel like I have swelling in my throat, as if I cannot swallow completely- and I really hope this will go away and is not some permanent scar tissue.
I also had bruises under my eyes and on my throat from their manipulations- my poor body has been through a lot this past week. Just so scary, the whole thing...
Anyway, if anyone has a similar experience, please let me know I am not so strange.

Thank you A_new-life
Perhaps I am just feeling sorry for myself- I notice I am really moody since the surgery too. Guess that is just stress...

Hang in there - things will get easier with each day, but your body has been through a lot. You're only a week out from surgery, so take your time and be good to yourself.

Anyone else have terrible pain from Trach Tube insertion?

I can tell you my throat is very narrow and I was told whenever I have to be intubated again I should tell the anesthesiologist to use a telescope-which I took to mean something similar to a lap camera.
You are not alone- look for the med alert braclet post...

Tunacat,
Sorry to hear of your difficulties. I had my surgery on 3/7/08. When the gyn checked in with me the next day and asked how the pain was all I can remember hurting was my throat and my right eye (not the surgical site -- courtesy the morphine pump). The eye ended up being an infection and the sore throat from the intubation lasted through most of the first week -- beyond what the pain meds were helping. I didn't even try solid foods until after first week.

Hope your throat heals. It is hard to rest it when it is needed constantly.

It's been a full week since your surgery. Have you mentioned this pain to your doctor recently? If your throat is swollen, you don't want it to get worse. You should have your doctor check it. If you surgeon can't help, please call your primary care physician.

I hope you feel better soon.

This is the second time I was intubated. And both times I had throat troubles. My throat was very sore and I could barely talk for a couple of days after it was put in and removed during surgery. It will heal. Try drinking tea or coffee. I found that anything hot soothed my throat and helped with the healing process. If it doesn't start to subside soon you may want to bring this up to your dr. I also had terrible mouth peeling for two days after I came home. This was bad. I would wake up in the morning and the inside of my mouth would just peel. Your body was put through a lot and everything will need time to heal.

ouch!! I had a horribly sore throat for the first 5-6 days post op. I couldn't have hot liquids as they killed my throat. so I assumed they had nicked my throat as I was being intubated. I would call the doctor and tell him how you feel today. there may be something they can give you!

Anyone else have terrible pain from Trach Tube insertion?

Last year July after my tubal and cold-cone I had the worst throat ever. The little thingy (??) in the back of my throat was so swolen I had trouble breathing for a week long and hurt so bad. I told the anethatist this time and they took extra special care. Not this time around not even a scratchy troat.
