What's the general rule for going up and down stairs? I can't remember what my doc said.

My pamphlet from the hospital says stairs are OK. My bedroom is on the second floor so I have stairs no matter what. As long as you take it slow and hold on to the rail. When I have taken my meds I have DH go up or down with me.

Stairs are one of those areas where every doctor has a different rule. My doctor said they were fine as long as I felt up to it and it didn't hurt. I started doing the stairs 4 days post op but limited it to one round trip a day - I was afraid to overdo it.
I did the same thing Nicole did - while I was on painkillers I had DH go up and down with me in case I got dizzy or weak or otherwise 'weird'

JoAnn I have to agree. I had TVH I have done only one roundtrip a day! Besides for about crawling up day 3 when I got home I didn't go down until the eve of Day 4.

I remember when I had abdominal bikini cut 6 years ago I did'nt attempt stairs until at least a week and that was out of boredom! It hurt like the dickens.

Had LTH on 3/11, I've been doing the stairs a few times a day since last Friday, when my husband had to go back to work (we have a dog and I need to go downstairs when she has to go out). It's a split level so I can take a short rest at the halfway point, but it seems to have gotten much easier over time.

Just got off the phone with the nurse. She told me to use my best judgement, but warned me not to do too much. If I don't HAVE to go up stairs, then don't. She also said no driving, at all until I see the doc next Tuesday, and I had an LSH.
