First Post
Hi everyone, this is my first post, I've been lurking for some time. I've learned tons and appreciate all that everyone writes about. My surgery is April 10. LAVH. I had my pre op appointment and actually feel good about my decision. In the last 9 months, my periods have become completely obnoxious. Clots, gushing, pain, and all that goes along with "something" growing in my uterus. The radiologist that read my US was not sure what it was. (That's comforting) He says it does not look like a fibroid or polyp but still could be one. I know my family will take good care of me but I'm stressed that everything at work will be a wreck when I get back. Just wondering if anyone else has had the "unknown" growing inside them and what it turned out to be. My GYN said another option would be ablation but my kids are grown, 20 and 14, and I'm really tired of having a period. My husband figured that in my lifetime I've had approximately 295 periods. That's a whole lot of tampons!!! Anyway, I just wanted to join in all the fun, no one really to talk to about all this. My husband is great and listens to an extent but he is still a guy. Thanks for listening. C~

Carmie :
This site is so awsome. I am sorry I do not have the growth thing, but I had to post to you. I lurked for a long time too. I have learned so much here, and continue to daily..like the fact that I will be laying on a tilted table for my procedures and lots of women get panicked by that...I'm glad to hear all info so I can weigh it myself !
My periods have been horrible too. Terrbile clots, gushing like a teenager, having to put a towel under me at night, and terrible back pain and cramps. I am happy with the decision the doctor's have made too !
Ask all the questions you want...all subject are open as you can see. Lots of info out here as well as fun and laughs. We can all use that right now with all this pressure of our upcoming surgeries.
Many blessings to you...I'm sure our "posts" will cross again .

Carmie,
Hello and welcome. This site is a comfort and inspiration. I have got more answers to questions than I could ever think of asking my doctor. I went into my surgery educated and informed about the procedure and what to expect during recovery. We are all there for you. I wish you lots of good luck.

Dear Carmie777,
Well, you've come to the right place!=-) Lots of support and help and just knowing others are going through the same things you are now!
You asked if "anyone else has had the 'unknown' growing inside of them and what it turned out to be". Well, I am one of those "anyones"! I have told my story a few times on here, but one never knows if just the right person reads it for their particular need. My story is that I have not had problems in the gyn area, that is until just a couple of weeks ago. I was in for my annual exam (I do have a history of a fibroid that was diagnosed 8 years ago incidentally found on an ultrasound for something else- it never caused me any problems) a few weeks ago and my gyn wanted to get an ultrasound to check on things and never expected to find anything of significance. To her shock and mine, she called on Mar4 and told me that it looked like something nasty growing in the uterus, not like fibroid, but rather like a sarcoma, which is an agressive, but rare cancer to have! She said I needed to have a TAH asap! She scheduled me for Mar 12. I had to have an abdominal because the uterus and growth were to large for lap or vag and since she was not sure what it was, that would give the best way to get anything out. I had an MRI on Mar 5 which still not define what it was that was growing in my uterus. So it was indeed a shock and very scary not knowing. I did not have much time to think at all in just one week to get ready to have major surgery! But I got as ready as I could, (and in some ways it seemed like so long just wondering what it was is there) and had a TAH BSO and found out that it was only a very large fibroid that was in the process of degenerating and that is why it looked so weird on the tests! It was such a huge relief! They found other fibroids and cysts and such in there and a enlarged uterus and I am so glad to have it all out and gone and not have to worry about it again. Since I did not need my uterus for anything anymore it was the very best for me to just have it all out and not worry about it. So now I have a new lease on life! I know when I recover from this surgery I will feel so much better than I did before. Do not worry about your "work being a wreck" if you are gone for awhile. You health and your family are the most important. If you don't take good care of yourself it does not matter in the long run about your work. You need to take good care of yourself to have the best quality of life so you can be there to enjoy your kids and husband! Sounds like you are doing the right thing to do the LAVH on April 10th.
All the best to you!
