Yeast infection and itchy incisions ~ anyone else?

i'm one wk post-op and had uterus/cervix removed with divinci. I'm wondering if any one else has been blessed with a yeast infection? I have to call the dr. but am quite itchy and leary about having to use anything. Also, i know its from healing but incisions-5 small- are itching like crazy and its impossible to scratch more than just around them, anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry you're experiencing these things but you're certainly not alone and I hope some ladies will be along soon to share.

In the meantime, if you try a "search" (click third from the right on the purple bar, towards the top of this page) you'll find hundreds of threads/posts to read through. I had a yeast infection post op too from taking so many antibiotics. I had my Dr prescribe the diflucan pill so that I could avoid anything going up there. It worked like a charm

Good luck!

Yeast infection and itchy incisions ~ anyone else?

I had my hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I started itching really bad and my incisions got really red. Then it started itching sooooo bad I couldn't stand it and then it got blistery and the blisters were like leaking. I went to the dr and they said I had an allergic reaction to either the prep or the sutures. It was AWEFUL. My whole stomach and the tops of my thighs were red, blistery, itchy. They put me on steriods and an antibiotic, it took about 4-5 days for it to start to go away. The only thing that helped me from going crazy was liquid benedryl. Redness and blisters went away now and the itching is better but still there. Good luck!

Thank you all for your input. I'm not prone to yeast infect. and wasn't particularly looking forward to using anything down there. I will ask for an oral anti. when I get a hold of him today.(out of office yesterday)
To Straitgurl71,
After I had my tubes tied a couple years ago I got an infection and wasn't healing as quick and easy as they thought I should be (it was done laproscopically) wound up I was allergic to the stitches. My dr. who did my hysterectomy was aware of that and not sure what he used for this surgery. I'm so sorry you had to go thru that. By the way, as odd as it sounds, even though I knew something wasn't rt back then, it was the fact the my dog kept sniffing my belly that told me i had an infection. Normally, he's not a sniffer.
Thanks again all of you.

Right there with you girl! I don't normally get yeast infections, and I either have vaginitis or yeast. I am red from my butt crack to my woohoo. I have been treating it with the Nystatin my daughters pedi prescribes for her vaginitis/yeast infections. I go to my doc on Tuesday, so if it is not better by then, I will ask him what's up.

Thank you all . I called dr. (especially since it's a fri.) today and was told by his nurse to use monistat 7. Hopefully that will take care of it.
Thanks again

(((kyto73))) I'm glad you called the DR's office. Are the incisions still super itchy today? If so, you might want to have them check on them... it is possible to get a yeast infection in incisions. It happened to me in a breast incision after a lumpectomy a couple of years ago and it itched like crazy.

Also, I'm kinda surprised the nurse told someone as newly post op as yourself to use Monistat, since it violates the "nothing in the vagina for six weeks" rule. Usually they'd prescribe Diflucan, an oral medication.

s,
-Linda
