Hi, Im new to the post op side, had my surgery last wed. SAH/BSO. im doing pretty good considering, but im having trouble sleeping on my back...sometimes is not the pain from surgery waking me up, but the pain in my back. when are you able or is it safe to sleep on your side, at least my left side, since I have a burning feeling on my right side, doubt I can turn on that side.

when is it safe to sleep on your side..

I made a little nest with my pillows and slept on my side 2 days after surgery. I was much more comfortable that way than on my back.

Had LAVH 3/10. I turned to my left side after 3 days. I was too sore on right side. I put a larger pillow behind me and a small one up against my belly. That worked pretty well for me.

i slept on my side from the time i was in the hospital. you wont do any damage from sleeping that way. it just really depends on if you are comfortable or not.

I also slept on my side in the hospital, with help from a nurse who placed a bolstering pillow behind me. Much more comfy than on my back.
However, I noticed a sharp pain in lower left abdomen sometimes when I sleep on my left side- so... I think my body says NO to that side!

The day after my surgery I asked the nurse in hospital if I could sleep on my side, she said " Sure, if you want to - you won't hurt anything" I guess it is what you are comfortable with. Speedy recovery to you.

when is it safe to sleep on your side..

The night of my surgery the nurses requested that I slept on my side, that night only did I have to turn every two hours. But they just wanted me to put a pillow between my legs and one under the side I had discomfort with. Ever since then I have slept on my sides and it makes a big deal, but on the nights that I have been having tightness where my right ovary is hanging, I have had to sleep on my back for a little bit or still put a small pillow or teddy bear under my tummy. Which for me isnt very often, I just hit my 3rd week on friday. So I hope that you can find a comfortable way for you to sleep and help you get a great nights rest, Im sure you need it we all do!

Good luck!
