Chills, left back pain, and bladder spasms with a catheter

I had my surgery on Monday and I still have a catheter. It is Easter Sunday and I am trying to get the doctor on call to call me back. I ran out of pain meds and I have back pain and I feel I have to pee badly even with the catheter in. Does this sound like a infection? I am still waiting on the doctor.

Could very well be a UTI. When you get the doctor, be sure to ask if he will give you some pyridium as well as an antibiotic if he thinks it is a UTI, too. The pyridium helps with the urinary pain and bladder spasms.

I had a catheter in for the first week and I too had the feeling as if I had to "go" as the bladder was releasing. Somehow it all worked though. I was put on an antibiotic for that week -- do you have one prescribed? I was on pain meds for the entire time I had the catheter in though. Too painful to sit otherwise.

Hope you get a call back from your doctor.

Pulled out catheter

The Dr. had me pull out the catheter and perscribed a new antibiotic, more pain meds and yes pyridium. I have an appointment tomorrow but may need to go to the hospital tonight for another catheter if I can't pee.

Thanks again,
Pam

pdwhoney,

How are you doing today? Did you need to go back to the hospital? Hope that things have improved.
Blessings.
