New here and young... just don't know what to expect

You should not be lifting anything during week 1 and 2. Or go anywhere but lay on sofa or bed. I found out the hard way too. After my 1.5 week follow up, I went shopping for an hour. UGH. I paid for this and for the laundry I did. Only 2 loads but that's how delicate you are at this time. So i have been resting on sofa and letting my wounds heal since Saturday. It made a big difference in recovery progress. You really need to stay off your feet during the first 2 weeks so you dont pull your stitches too. I was reaching, that was bad. My DR instructions state nothing more than 3 lbs for 28 days. Going to the bathroom, taking a shower and heating up a can of soup is about all I should have done first 2 weeks. And slow movements. They do want you to get up and walk but for no more than 20 min at a time, when you do get up to keep your blood circulating. I was kind of in the same boat as you. Not that much time from decision to surgery. I found this site but did not access the checkpoints before surgery. Go to the CHECKPOINTS from this site. They clearly outline your physical limitations, (dos and donts), for each week post op. Basically what I just said.

I am a year younger than you, I have learned when it comes to this hysterectomy, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. Just know that this site is up 24/7 so if you have questions and need advice or to vent. This place is always open. So always keep that in mind.

Take it from a younger gal, do not push your self YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE TO HEAL CORRECTLY. I pushed myself too much and now I am wishing I had gone slower and maybe waited till I had no stairs and such.

I am also a year younger than you and you need to take it easy I have had this surgery and tried to hang curtains, that did not work too well. I think I was at 4 weeks at that point, then on Friday I fell in the shower, and I have not made it back to where I was all the way from that. I am doing ok though I will get there. I have talked to the hospital and they know what happened and guided me through it what they said is under recovery for feb 19-25 2008.
good luck

Stop doing so much. I don't care how bored you are. You only have ONE chance to let your body heal (I read that on this site somewhere and took it to heart). I can't offer much on hormones. I was able to keep on ovary. Please do not have sex until your doc says so. I can tell you that sex was scary the first and second time. We took it very, very, very slow. Please, please rest and take care of yourself. It sounds like you have a lot going on in your life right now. I know it's scary (I'm just a bit older then you) at the thought of early menopause, but worry about it when you need too. I know that it's easier said than done. HUGS.
