How long to take pain meds

Hi Violetflame...I sent you a pm. I know you have the dietery issues but can you take percoset? Ask you doc, I was on darvacet and doc changed it percs because they are stronger. I have only been on Ibu's the last two days and they don't do didly squat. I wanted to keep the 4 percosets I have left so I can at least sleep at night. I had one refill when doc saw me last week.

How long to take pain meds

In this day and age there is no need to be in excessive pain. Everyone has had different procedures done and are at different stages of life. If I were still in pain? I would eb taking pain meds. Luckily I only need some advil now and then, but I had a TVH and I am in good physical health to begin with. Some of these procedures I am seeing here are serious! I can't imagine some of the pain you guys are going through. I am very sympathetic and would give you my percocets!

How long to take pain meds

Aww Thanks Everyone,

My neighbor who was the nurse in the or with me was just over visiting and she said she saw my Dr today and he asked how I was feeling. He told her I needed a pain med refill and said I didnt need it anymore. She told me there is nothing there to have pain anymore. I am so disgusted, because now my DH thinks I shouldnt take the pain meds either. I told him about hystersisters and other people still needing pain meds he told me everyone was crazy not to listen to them. I dont really understand, had TAH was told before hand to take pain meds, and do nothing, now apparantly I should be in tip top shape. I am still sleeping in reclyner (my bed is too high), I have to work this weekend we have a big Photo shoot 600 kids.

Anyway, I think percocets have motrin or asprin in them, I am allergic only pain med I can have is darvacet or tylenol. I am now on my own I suppose. Its hard enough to feel miserable but to feel miserable and afraid to take pain meds is just not right.

Thanks C~

I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting the much needed support from your doctor and your DH.

In answer to your question, I think it all depends on the type of hysterectomy you have and your pain tolerance. However, 10 days is not a very long time in your recovery process. I was taking 4-5 pain meds a day at 10 days post-op.

I had a TVH on 2/29/08, and the last Vicodin (which has acetaminophin (sp?) in it, I believe) was last Saturday, 3/22/08. I also take 600 mg. of Motrin as needed, but it, alone, doesn't seem to do much for the pain. I just opened my second bottle of 50 tabs of Vicodin at three weeks post-op, and to date, I've only taken one out of this bottle. Unfortunately, a most annoying thing I've noticed from the pain meds is constipation. Since I'm in the process of remedying this not so little problem, I won't be taking another Vicodin again unless I absolutely have to. Constipation is no fun, as many of you know.

Best of luck to you in your quest for pain relief.

How long to take pain meds

I stopped taking my pain meds about 2 days ago. They were making me constipated and it wasn't worth feeling like that. I have some pain but I dont think enough to take pain meds. My period cramps were much worse than any of the pain that came from surgery.

You need to be your only advocate to your doctor. Call your doctor and tell him that if fact you are in pain! Don't let her speak for you!
