Bladder/Leakage/Young and Embarrased

Just wanted to update those who have read my thread. I went to my dr's today. My dr did not feel that the leakage was anything to worry about. He has taken a urine sample to test for UTI. I will know the results of that next week. He also did an ultrasound on the spot of my kidneys to make sure they were ok. All is fine with them. They are normal in size with no problems. The dr. feels that this is just part of the healing process. I am only two weeks post op and my bladder is just recovering. It must be retrained. To retrain the bladder he suggested drinking lots of fluid. Cranberry juice and water. Try to steer clear of pop and caffeine. And do kegal exercises. I have begun doing the kegals and have increased my fluid intake.
I also noticed that being out and a little more active today seemed to help the bladder. I didn't have nearly as many "leaks" as I normally do when I was walking around my local Walmart.
My dr. has asked me to be patient and let me body heal and listen to what it is telling me. Bladder retraining is a normal process after this type of surgery.

I'm glad this thread could help you and I am happy to have found this site myself. It has been great to know that I am not only in this journey. Keep posting and let us know what happened after speaking with your dr.

Called Dr. this morning and they got me in right away. No indication of a UTI, so bladder is probably spasming from surgical trauma. There were a couple of pulled stitches in the vagina and indications of an infection there. Doc put me on another series of Cipro (took a series post-op) and another antibiotic. Also got a gentle lecture about takng it easy!

Thank you!!!

Thanks for the update. It sounds like your dr has it well in hand and time is what you need now. I'm glad to hear he didn't find any other problems and that you are doing a little bit better. I hope it keeps getting better and better. You really are very early in your recovery. It's nice to have that reassurance though that they don't see anything that needs taken care of.

Done some additional research on my own via the web and it appears that this is pretty common. I can become a bit emotional at times because of it. Feel like a child and less like a woman because I have to constantly remind myself to use the toilet. Lastnight was rough. Up a lot and each time I got up I leaked. Today hasn't been too bad but I haven't been very active. I will be going out later to the local mall for a walk around (this is my exercise right now) and then off to buy a fridge and freezer. I think getting out and doing things helps me to take my mind off of the peeing and I make sure I am well protected down there and that there are restrooms where I go "just in case". Hoping this doesn't take two weeks and hoping that it clears on it's own. I did read - which was very reassuring to me that ALL incontinence issues CAN be fixed so this is not something I will have to live with forever. That made me feel good.

Glad to hear that you took this to your dr. and it isn't anything serious. Keep me posted on how you are doing and I will do the same.

I spoke with my dr's office yesterday and it appears that I still had some bacteria in my urine. He has prescribed 5 days worth of cipro. I have started taking this as of lastnight. I have to say though, after being sick with the flu for a couple of days my bladder seems to be back to normal. I have some leaking but I'm not completely sure if this is actually urine or vaginal. It seems more vaginal to me now. Hopefully the cipro will clear anything that is still lingering and I can get back to some normallcy.
