anyone heard of MORPHINE NOT working ??

I know this is going to sound stupid but the 800mg of Ibubrofen they gave me in the hospital kept me pain-free for 6 hours compared to the IV drip stuff that would only last an hour or so.

I didn't have nearly as invasive of surgery (I did have some vaginal and anal reconstruction and a bladder band though), but I was really shocked at how well my old stand-by for muscle stress worked.

BTW...morphine made me so ill after surgery that even when I would turn my head from side to side I would throw up without warning. Took 24 hours to wear off but afterwords I felt great. I'm sorry they pushed it on you so long. My mom's had problems too so from now on I'm "allergic" to morphine. :P

Dilaudid aka Hydromorphone , is what i was given at surgery and 2 mg pills of it for home pain meds. It worked for me. But my surgery was not as complicated and invasive as yours. And I felt like I was hit by a truck the first week. So I can imagine how you feel. Doing laundry the first week, any movement like that caused swelling for me and in turn causing trauma and pain to the healing incisions. You had much more done than me and doing laundry the first week set me back in recovery alot. I know it's hard to not do things you see that need to get done that seem minor. But you pay the price in pain.

Ibuprofen is useless for me when it come to more than a headache...

Torodol, I don't think I have tried but am interested in how it "addresses the pain".

Toradol (generic = ketorolac) is a potent anti-inflammatory (NSAID type), a COX inhibitor that works by inhibiting the enzyme that allows prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins are the hormones that caused painful menstrual cramps in those of us who had them pre-hyst.

Toradol is non-narcotic, so it's non-addictive (a good thing!) but it is only supposed to be used for up to five days max (IV and oral combined). My standard post surgery pain management is IV Toradol in the hospital, oral Toradol the first couple of days at home and then switching over to Celebrex for two weeks (formerly Vioxx, which worked better for me but is no longer available); then Motrin after that.
