Why are so many sisters having abdominal hysterectomies?

I had a large suspicious looking complex ovarian cyst and had abdominal surgery so that the Dr. could get a good look at what was going on and remove it without rupturing the thing. Fortunately it turned out to be benign, but given my family history, I'm glad he didn't take any chances. I ended up with a TAH/BLO for that plus endometriosis, adenomyosis, and fibroids.

I had to get the TAH because of the possibility of cancer. The biopsy results could not rule out cancer. It turned out that there was cancer. I am glad she looked around while I was opened up.

Why are so many sisters having abdominal hysterectomies?

My doctor first told me that I'd have to have a TAH since I had not had children. However, once he did an exam he felt confident that he'd be able to do a TVH. Aside from each woman's individual situation, I think it also has to do with the doctor's experience, training and comfort.

Personally, I'd rather have my doctor working in their comfort zone.

Mine was a TAH/BSO. It was due to having endometriosis and adenomyosis. The doctor also preformed excision surgery to remove the endometriosis. It was better for the adominal surgery so he could see the disease.

I had a TVH. The Dr. first did a D&C and a hysteroscopy to see what she was dealing with. During this surgery she "tugged" on my uterus to see if she could get it down enough to remove vaginally. I'd assume it also depends whether or not you're keeping your ovaries too.

Why are so many sisters having abdominal hysterectomies?

I had my surgery abdominally because of so many fibroids. My uterus was the size of a 5-month pregnancy.

I have battled with severe endo for over a decade. When it came back this time the doctor and I opted for a hysterectomy. We discussed the options and he felt that TAH/BSO would give him the ability to view all areas and remove all visible endo.

Why are so many sisters having abdominal hysterectomies?

My oncologist tried to do the least invasive procedure possible - did a d & c to see what he was dealing with first, then his plan was to remove the uterus laparascopically if it was benign. I wanted to keep my ovaries, if possible. He ended up having to perform a TAH due to where my uterine cancer was located, and of course, since there was cancer, he had to remove everything anyway. At least, he tried to do it laparoscopically. My GYN wanted to go in abdominally without doing a D & C first. I think most oncologists and even GYN's try to do the least that they have to now.

Hi,
I had a TAH/BSO because they knew I had endometrial cancer and my uterus was the size of a 3 month pregnant woman.
