post-op itching

I'm new here and was wondering if anyone else got a rash around their incision after the surgery? I think I'm allergic to the tape they used after the staples came out. If anyone has heard of or had this please give me some tips to try and control the itching. It is starting to dry up some but it's driving me nuts in the meantime.

hi, I too itch. For me some of it is from skin reacting to steri strips and other part is from incisions healing. Keep an eye on the rash to make sure you are not getting an infection. (will get super red and may get smell and puss) I found that rubbing around incisions feels pretty good.
good luck.

I had a TVH so I didn't have an incision to deal with but I had itching and a rash in the groin. I was convinced I was alergic to the internal stitches and found relief with taking an antihistamine (Claritin). ASK YOUR DR FIRST though.

I used Benedryl cream on those spots around the incisions where the tape seemed to irritate. That worked at least temporarily. Also sometimes ice or a cold washcloth will help ease it for a while. Tylenol also helped somewhat.

I ended up going to the dr. for my rash, he gave me betamethasone ointment. It seems to be helping, I only itch a little. The dr. said I was allergic to the tape, no infection; that's good. I have to go back on Monday for him to check it. I feel really good except for the rash. I tried the cold wash cloth & it does help a little. Thanks Scipio6x.
