Swelly Belly - How Long???

Just wondering how long to expect this swelly belly? I'm four weeks post-op and I think it's getting worse rather than better. Maybe cause I'm doing more?? I'm feeling pretty good and able to increase activity, but just wonder about this swelling.

I'd love to hear what you're all experiencing.

Swelly Belly - How Long???

Hi Diane,
You are not alone and there are a ton of threads on this subject. You should do a search and read up on the posts and you'll see that most of us are going through the same thing, even 6 months out.

Swelly Belly - How Long???

I am sorry to say that even almost 4 months out I still get mine on some days. It is not fun being a size 10 in the morning and a 16 when I get home!

Swelly Belly - How Long???

I am with you all--I feel mine is getting worse, too!! Does it get worse with more activity AND does it matter that I didn't have mine abdominally??

Swelly Belly - How Long???

Hi, I am 5 weeks post op and mine has gotten worse to. I have more swelling now then I did in the beginning, I even went to the doctor to make sure I was ok, she said it was normal. I was really swollen and then it makes it hard to do things with being so swollen. Lisa

My doctor told me swelly belly could last for months! Not what you wanted to hear, I suppose (hey, I didn't want to hear it, either!) But you may want to lay in a supply of stretchy shorts/capris for spring and early summer!

Swelly Belly - How Long???

agree with all that. everyones different and have heard of people being fine after a few weeks. for me at 15 weeks, I feel Im just about there - but I am on holiday right now. on my feet at work all day, i was still getting swelling.

Darkchoc - I thought that abdominal surgery was worse for this, but actually, I'm not sure this is the case. think I just assumed that the disruption and exposure of the intestines etc. during surgery was the cause of the build up of pressure/swelling.

Found mine always subsided by putting up my feet whenever I could, even at work...and drinking lots of water is supposed to help too.

Patience is the word here I think..
take care

PS good to see you here Sarrah-hope all is going well for you now.x

Swelly Belly - How Long???

I am 9 weeks post-op and have started to exercise and change my diet but even though my weight is at the pre-op weight...my belly is bigger than before and therefore I can't wear any of my old pants! It's very discouraging. I have a graduation party this summer and bought a really cute dress but I look like I'm 6 months pregnant in it! Might just have to go for some sort of balloon top to hide it. Either that or find some sort of girdle! I still have soreness around the belly button area which I'm not sure of why (unless this is normal after this long). I find that after I go walking..it's a little bit more sore than before. Ugh....one more thing....my hubby thinks I should go in and talk to my doctor because he says that my mood has changed alot since the surgery (not for the better). I'm thinking maybe it's a hormone thing since one ovary was removed. Anyone else out there have any of these issues? I would love to hear from you.
