Reason why we must wait to resume sex!

I had my 5 week post op yesterday and during my vaginal exam the Dr. said there were a couple spots not healing as fast as others so he zapped them and then said no sex for at least 2 more weeks. If I were to have sex there would be a risk of tearing open the incision which over time could open up enough for my intestines to drop through. Then I would have a whole new problem to deal with. So I have listened to my Dr. and ALL his instructions, that way I will heal properly.

katsfeather,

I haven't had any post-op appointments yet and am listening to my doctor about limitations & restrictions also..my question is this..was it silver nitrate treatment they gave you? How did that feel?
Do you have to get re-checked in two weeks?

Reason why we must wait to resume sex!

Cynthia,

It was a quick zap, I guess like burning it or cauterizing. He said I may feel a sting, but I didn't feel a thing and it was done in seconds. No he said I don't have to go back unless I have a problem. He wanted me to wait 2 more weeks for sex to be on the safe side.

Hope you are doing well too!!!

No sex????

I was not given any sex limitation or household limitations. When I was discharged, I was given paper work saying to go back to my everyday life. I am not going to have sex until my 2 weeks exam just because I have been in no pain and I do not want to be in any. My surgery was done LAP incase that is different.

I am going to call the office tomorrow and make sure I am not doing things that can cause me problems. Thanks ladies

Yeah, they told me go back to everyday life, what I was doing before and my huband said you have no idea what type of stuff she did before. I am a very active person indoors and out. I am doing wonderfully as far as pain, mobility, sleeping, but I cant lift more that 7 to 8 pounds. I would life more than 50 to 60 lbs, I heat with wood. I could never have done that when I came home. They are crazy!!!!!

Reason why we must wait to resume sex!

I am following doctor's orders and WAIT until at least 6 weeks before sex. I had a total hysterectomy and my cervix was also removed b/c I had a history of HPV. I wanted to know - if you take out my uterus and cervix, which supports my vagina and puts it in the correct place in the abdomen - what will keep it in place?

He explained that when the uterus is removed, the ligaments that support it are cut off, and then the top of the vagina is sewn shut, and the ligaments are attached to it. The other end of the ligaments are attached to the pelvis bone, so they are strong and are able to support the vagina.

My worst fear, then, was that having sex, especially too soon, or lifting something I shouldn't, would cause the ligaments to pop loose and the vagina would prolapse!! Indeed, my doctor did tell me that one of his patients did exactly that - she lifted something heavy and felt a pop - and had to have another surgery to fix it.

So WAIT. And stock up on lube. And remember that sex is 95% in the mind, you don't need a uterus to have an orgasm.

Thanks for the info

I read your responce to waiting for sex. Thank you I almost made a huge mistake. My docotr did not tell me anything and only told me not to have sex if I have the vaginal procedure, they never said anything about Lap procedure.
Again thanks for the information, it really helped
