8 week swelly belly attack

Hello ladies,
I haven't been around here much lately. After about 6 weeks I started getting back to regular life, feeling good, etc.

Coming up on 8 weeks I pretty much forgot I had surgery, which is where the problem began. I got a bee in my bonnet last Friday, (not yesterday, the week before), and proceeded to haul and spread 15 bags of mulch. Then, because that wasn't stupid enough, on Saturday I went on a 10 mile hike. On Sunday, despite a world class case of shin splint and sore hips from hills, I did more yard work.

Needless to say, by Monday morning I was trashed, sore, my belly was totally swollen, and the swelling down below was back to making it painful to sit.

I'm over all my stupidity, but I realize now I have a ways to go to truly be over this surgery. Whether my brain remembers or not, my body is still reminding me.

I did start running later in the week and felt great putting on my running shoes and hitting the street, but I can only run a couple of minutes at a time and know it will be a long while before I'm back to the 7 I was doing in December.

So to all of you in the early weeks, take your time and don't be tempted to push too hard, you will get slapped right back!

Wendy:
Hope you haven't injured something... How much did the bags of mulch weigh? I know what it is like to want to get back to normal, but remember there are still internal stitches that need the time to heal.

8 week swelly belly attack

I keep feeling better and fall into that cycle of going and doing and then crashing. I still get a reminder once in a while with a tug of the internal stiches to slow down. I am going to help my husband build my photostudio today, but I will pace myself.

8 week swelly belly attack

Hi Patie O,
The mulch was under my weight limit for post surgery, and after my check up at 4 weeks my doc told me I could do what ever I felt I was up to. It didn't hurt at the time, nor did I have acute pain like I had popped something, just general swelling.

I walked 12 miles yesterday and had a bit of swelly belly again, but not as bad as last week. It was the lifting that got to me. When the rain stops and I can do more yard work, I'll open the bags on the ground and scoop half a bag at a time into the wheelbarrow.

Pamperedpeach,
You are a whole month behind me! I was barely feeling normal at that point!
