Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

Hi fellow sisters-

I had a TAH/BSO on March 3rd. My doctor was going to start me on HRT while I was in the hospital. We discussed the patch and then he gave me a prescription for Estradiol 1 MG. I wanted to research things so I asked him if I had to start taking it right away. He said I could start it later.

Well I am 4 weeks post op and I have not been having many symptoms. I have had a few warm flashes. They have been minor. Other than that mood has been stable and I have not noticed any other symptoms.

I got the medicine on my home from the hospital but so far I have not needed it. I am wondering if I should start taking it or wait and see if the symptoms start???

I have a Dr's appointment tommorow but I was just looking for some opinions?

Thanks to all that respond

Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

I think your body stores some hormones that is probably why you haven't experienced anything major yet. Just an opinion.

Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

I agree. I was on Premarin .65 from just after my surgery and I felt great - no difference at all for about 6 weeks. Then I noticed changes so I switched to Estradiol 1mg. I think I need to increase that now. I am still suffering from insomnia, plus I find as the days go on I am more moody. Also my skin is looking crepe like - older. Yikes!!

BTW I am 46 and I had my ovaries out on 2/8/08.

Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

I had my TAH & LSO on Feb 6th, my Doctor was going to put me on Estratest right away, after my surgery. But for some reason didn't even tho I began having hot flashes and night sweats in the hospital.

I didn't have time to research alot of the HRT's meds before my surgery, as to which one seemed to be a good choice for me. So, i didn't bother while I was in the hospital. Once I got home, tho, the hot flashes and symptoms got worse, so I called him and asked him to put me on something. He put me on Premarin .625 I have tried it now for about 7 weeks, and I have decided to take myself off of it. I have researched it, and found that some of the side effects are headaches, flu like syndrome, depression, and several others. My GYN doc has not been a good doctor for me, in fact, i have been very dissapointed with his care of me. My incision got infected, and I went to see him, and he told me it was not infected, it got worse, I ended up going to my PCP Doctor for the Flu, and had her look at the incision and she said it was MOST Definitly infected, she called his office, and told his Nurse I needed to be seen. So, she made an appt for me to be seen right away, I Went in, And he Was Furious I was back, and that I went to another doctor for my incision, AND he told me it was NOT infected, buit gave me an Antibiotic anyways... Within 5 days the infection had gotten better, and my incision was finally healing. When I wemt back for me 6 week checkup, he was very condescending to me in his tone, talking to me, and every question I asked him, he was sarcastic. He knows I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician, And I know drugs and I research things before I take them, or have things done to my body. And I don't think he liked that. I really have a problem with male Doctors who treat women as if they Don't know their own bodies, or how they feel, and when they are in real pain, try to treat them as if they are not. He is also A OB Doctor and Really Spends most of his time delivering babys,, He delivered my grandaughter just 8 months ago.

I found this page here at Hystersisters. I found it to be quite helpful,,, so it might be helpful to you as well.

I don't like the Premarin and what its making me feel like. I am really going to be looking for a Doctor now that can help walk me thru my Menopause, step by step.

I am having really bad headaches, I am already on 3 different Migraine Medicines, and 4 different antidepressants on a daily basis. I need to have someone that will work with me and my other medicines. Anyways, After all this, What I really want to say is read the article, and find a doctor that will work with you and the HRT meds, they are not a One med fits all , and it may take a good long time to find just the right one to fit your body.

Good Luck...

Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

I actually went nine months before any signs of menopause showed up. By then the hormone levels in the my body were unregisterable on the blood test.

I did begin HRT after that.

Surgical Menopause-When does it start???

HI: I am 4 mos. post op and am not on any HRT. My gyn wants to wait 6 months to see what post menopausal symptoms are still persisting. So far, I just get some hot flashes (which I can handle) and I've had some insomnia which is finally starting to taper off. I feel great, haven't had any other problems. I'm going for my 6 mos check up in July and am hoping to not have to take anything.
