Upper Right Quadrant Pain

Hello again Ladies. I posted a couple of days ago about swelly belly pain - if it was causing pain more than just being uncomfortable for some of you.

Well I hardly slept at all last night. I was a little active yesterday - but it was very minimal. Friend drove me to the school where my kids go so I could drop something off in the office. Then my husband took me and my kids out to dinner. That's all we did. I'm 3 weeks and 2 days post op. But by the end of the night I was in so much pain - and it's not all pain related to the incision site.

Let me see if I can explain. It was feeling like the swelly belly was like swelling up into my upper abdomen - not just staying down at the surgical sight. I would get to wear my upper abdomen (well above my belly button - like moving up into my chest) was so swelly that even wearing BIG sweatpants was hurting. I had to go home and get my nightgown on.

So I took my pain meds and I got in bed. I was up like all night long. My upper right quadrant from like my waist all the way up to under my breast is killing me. And it is all the way around my side to my back - making my back ache really bad as well. Taking a deep breath aches, too. I can't lay on that side - it hurts - I can't lay on the other side because it's like it pulls on the side that hurts.

UGH! What is going on? I have had my gallbladder out - the hard way I might add. I have a six inch incision across my gut and now I have about a 9 inch incision at my bikini line. I'm beginning to look like frankenstein. I know I need to take it easy and such but this seems so extreme at 3 weeks Post Op. Has anyone had experience with this or have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Sorry for your pain

Pamela,

First off if it keeps getting worse go to the doctor especially if it is affecting your breathing. It seems like most of us seemto get better and then wham. Things seems to get worse. I think that is part of the healing process, since our insides have experienced trauma

I am 4 weeks post op and it feels like somebody broke my ribs on my right side. I have been to my gyno. and I have been to my family physician. Both think that I have somehow pulled my oblique stomach muscles. The pain radiates from the back to the front and under the rib cage. If I take deep breaths it hurts also. My swelly belly is down pretty much most of the time except over the pubic bone and in this area. Yesterday I leaned across my desk and it brought tears to my eyes because it felt like somebody had stabbed me in the spot under the ribs and about 1 inch below. The doctor didn't mess with anything in that area I have to take the pain meds at night along with a muscle relaxer. On some days it feels like I can't even turn over. I am not allowed to apply heat because of other complications. I could really use a long hot soak in the tub but that is not allowed either.

Please take it easy and see your doctor if it get worse. And let us know results.

Upper Right Quadrant Pain

Are you passing gas okay? It almost sounds like the gas pains from the carbon they push in your system from surgery. Usually that goes away within the first week, but I would imagine that if you aren't getting the gas out of your system properly it would back up similarly. Have you tried just using a Phazyme or Gas-X? It might be an easy solution to a very painful problem.

Take care and make sure to see your doctor if it continues...

I would say gas is definitely a possibility... I quit taking the gas-x after about 2 weeks and my 3rd week I was in quite a bit of pain... Try that, but if your pain does not go away, I would call the doc... You may have a hematoma or something and you don't want it to go to far.
