How long before swelly belly goes down??

Hi Emily - I'm sure for everyone it is different - but my swelling didn't stop until about 6 weeks post-op - it was then that I was able to wear my jeans - without feeling uncomfortable.

I am now at 10 weeks and still sometimes in the evening if I have been running around (trying to get back to my normal busy life) I still get some swelling. Hope this helps - just like everything else the process of healing from this takes time and everyone is different. Take care of yourself - you are early into your recovery - it seems slow right now but before you know it you will be well down the road. Veronica

How long before swelly belly goes down??

Hi Emily! My surgery was the day after yours and I still have it every morning. It seems to a little better mid day but then bad again in the evening. Drinking a lot of water seems to help a little for me. The downside is a lot of trips to the bathroom! Our swelly bellies have minds of their own!

I also am 9 1/2 weeks and mine is still very swollen.. I did get a pair of jeans on for about 2 hours yesterday, so there is a light at the end of the tunnell.. It is just a very looong tunnel.

How long before swelly belly goes down??

I am six weeks out and still have it. End of day is worse, but I do see improvement in the morning! My sister said to plan on minimum of 6 months to a year with improvement every week.

How long before swelly belly goes down??

I was able to have a chat with a whole bunch of princesses right before my surgery who had their visit to the castle within the past five years. All of them told me their swelly belly lasted up to a year after their surgery, to some extent. Most of them did not have the support of a fabulous network like HysterSisters, so did not know about a lot of the wonderful items we have available to help combat swelly belly and were very envious when I told them about some of the items we can purchase here. Most of them said it took approximately six months for a majority of their swelling to go away and felt a little more "normal". So, if I feel better at six months I'm going to feel very fortunate.

The DH had gall bladder surgery a week before me and is actually dealing with the same thing. So, I have someone to compare myself with right in my own living room! LOL! His doctor also told him six months to a year for his belly swelling to go down and start to look more "normal". He is already back in his pre-op pants, however, so I have a feeling it will be much faster for him.

Any suggestions on what to wear to work while waiting for this anomaly to go away? I bought some nice looking casual pants with a drawstring and have worn these both at home and while out for my walks in public. Would love to hear any suggestions on this.

R&R and wishing you all well...

How long before swelly belly goes down??

Wow Deziner, you are already walking out in public - I'm impressed!

As far as clothes go - I was really worried with the swelly belly and then magically at 6 weeks it just went down and I was able to wear all my regular pants again. I also noticed that pants fit better because I have no more bloating - I am far from having a flat stomach, lets just say its flatter.

Wait and see how the weeks go you may be surprised to find that your clothes are ok,

take care, Veronica

Excessive bleeding post op

My hysterectomy was on March 18th. I had a lot of internal bleeding post op. My doc has opted to not surgically remove the old blood ( I'm glad not to have another procedure). She suggested I just wait for my body to take care of it. So my tummy is still pretty sore. Is there anything I can take to help my body along? Also my incision is not healing well. It's been 3 weeks and still oozing, she had to cauterize it today at my check up. Did this happen to anyone else? I've been putting ice on it every day since the staples have been removed. But is there more I can do?
