I met with the admissions person at the castle, and everything is all set with the insurance, but found out I need to pay $300 co-pay the morning of surgery. I got my last period today...not what I wanted for the trip mind you. The cramps are so bad and now all I can take is Tylenol.
My doctor informed me about adhesions today and told me how important it is not to do anything I am not supposed to do post-op. She said I will feel pretty good in about 3 weeks and that is when most women get in trouble because they feel good on the outside but there is alot of healing that needs to be done inside. It may be a long time before I can vacumn or walk my dogs.
It may not be a real vacation, but one perk to living where I live is I can look out my windows and see palm trees, and lush foilage. Our hospital is brand new and kinda looks like a high class hotel in some ways. I think all of the other LIW's should come down here for their operations and maybe it would feel like vacation.
Nice to hear from you Wendy and MGrubbs. You too Freezy. I hope the tylenol with codine works. I can't take codine, so I wonder what I will get.
Hugs to all
Jane
JAne your doc was totally right. The 3 week mark isthe hard one. I am at 3 weeks right now and i have had a little set bac. Good morning,
These cramps are a good reminder of why I am getting this surgery in the first place. I just wanted to tell all of you I will be thinking of you while I am away. This morning my friends and I are taking a bus trip to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. It would be great if I got lucky and came home with some extra cash for the trip, but I am not counting on it. When I get home I need to do some food shopping for my hubby and then I am going to bed at 8:30. ( I'll have to wait to see if Jason goes home on Idol) I have to leave here at 4am to drive to the airport and catch my 7am flight. Next week at this time I will be at the castle and just 1 hour and 35 minutes from surgery time.
By the way girls who is your favorite Idol? I like David Cook.
I can't thank all of you enough for just being there and sharing. You are all the best.
Hugs
Jane

Hello MGrubbs..
as you may know, I'd actually started a thread a few weeks ago, noting that I had myself fully booked, and busier than usual, the last week at work, and wondering if I'd done myself a favor or not.

Well I'm not 5 days postop....and I can tell you that for a whole variety of reasons, being even busier than usual was the right thing to do - at least for me. I went in for my surgery on Friday morning, and due to some last minute changes, I did have Thursday afternoon free..which was great...bought myself a new pair of pajamas, took the cats to the vet, ran a couple errands. But I think I would have driven myself crazy that week, if I hadn't been busy. and now that I'm on the other side, I don't think I could have done anything further, to prepare. yeah, the house could be cleaner..but it really wouldn't have made any difference.

there's no crystal ball, but if going to work feels like the right thing to do, it probably is.

Take care of yourself

Hi Jane and Carla,

Hope the trip is brilliant Jane.

I agree with Carla - I like little David - I think he is so good, especially for one so young. Haven't seen the results yet but would hope Jason goes!

Also agree about the friends bit - you all rock!

Hugs,

Hi MGrubbs,

Hope your day has gone OK. One thing to be said for recovery you can get a lot of reading done - yeh just finished another book!

You were asking about the week before - I worked right up until half a day before and it was only on the advice of my amazing chiropractor that I finished lunchtime instead of working the whole day. He said I just needed to have a few hours of calm to steady myself and visualize healing and a positive outcome of the surgery the next day. I did this and surprised myself at how calm I was going into surgery the next day. I have had numerous surgeries in the past and have always been really nervous but this time I was calmer than my DH!

So think positively and hugs all round,

Home from the castle!

Hi Everyone
I just wanted to tell you all that I am back and that all went extremely well. In fact things are so much better than I could have expected. The doctor said my surgery was awesome and that I lost very little blood. The post-op pain has been very manageable for me with my medication and I was walking the next day after after surgery. The hospital was beautiful and I was soooo comfortable there that I kinda miss it now that I am home. I loved that bed with all the controls to get in and out of. I made friends with one of the nurses who happens to be my neighbor.
I can only hope you LIW's have as good an experience as I have had. Waiting was the worst.
My trip home to NY was great too. My daughter graduated Summa *** Laude. We were so proud of her. I bought my other daughter a beautiful wedding gown at David's Bridal.
My stepdaughter has enjoyed being here with her dad, but I feel like she would have had more fun if I wasn't in the hospital, but I will make it up to her on her next visit.
So how is everyone doing? I do get tired easily, but over all I am feeling really good

Jane

Hi Jane,

I was so excited when I saw your name pop up in my inbox. I was expecting to hear from you before you went in hospital and was a little worried but when I read you already had your surgery and made out well I was so thrilled.

Glad the graduation and wedding dress shopping went well too. How exciting. Did all that keep your mind off worrying about your surgery?

You hospital sounds beautiful and way to go making a friend as being new to your area is a fresh start with friends too right?

I see dancingfool viewing this thread too right now! LOL

I will keep an eye on you in your post op group and send me a PM if and when you feel up to it.

Be good to yourself and take it easy as the first few days at home seem to be difficult.

Hugs,
Tracy

I'm back from the castle! But I've somehow acquired the dual status of punctured princess and LIW. They were only able to do a portion of the surgery (ovaries and tubes removed) and will have to complete it (uterous) after another six months of chemo. My uterous is fused to my bowel with a tumor and taking it now would have meant taking a large portion of my bowel. So the plan is to further shrink and hopefully break the bond with chemo and then give it another shot. I'm not thrilled, but I'm dealing.

In general things went very well. I'm moving around okay. My biggest problem has been a horribly sore throat from an NG tube I had from Tuesday to Friday. I'm having trouble swallowing and gagged a bunch of times yesterday trying to get some pills down. Gagging after surgery is NOT FUN!

So - how is everyone else?
