Balance disruption???

I have been in meno for about 14 years due to chemo for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I had a difficult time getting balanced over the years and finally felt I had gotten "there".
I am 56, so when I was discussing options with my hysterectomy, both my PCP and surgeon said I would be better off without my ovaries, due to my age. I have been on tri-est and compounded progesterone for about 7-8 years. My concern now is that about 5 weeks out from surgery I'm beginning to have some mild night sweats and hot flashes. Is it possible my ovaries were still adding something to the mix? I was assured by both doctors that that was not the case. What could account for this? Is it something that will settle itself down or do I need to increase my estrogen? Thanks for any input.

Balance disruption???

Hi Kathy!

It surprises many to learn that even after menopause the ovaries can produce beneficial hormones. There have been some post-menopausal women who experience menopause symptoms after the ovaries are removed. I hope they will be along to share their experiences.

It does take time for the hormones made by the ovaries to deplete once the ovaries are removed so it's entirely possible that your symptoms are due to those hormones being gone or nearly gone now.

You might want to keep a journal of your symptoms to share with the doctor. That will show how you're doing over a period of time and can be helpful for your doctor to adjust your hormone therapy if that is what you wish to do.

Best wishes as you continue to heal!
