Am I just a big baby?

I hate that my first post is such a negative one, but who better to ask my random questions than people who have been through this themselves?

I called my doctor and he doesn't seem concerned except if I get a fever, which I've been close, but luckily, none as of yet.

Some hours I feel great and the surgery never happened, other times, like last night I was in sooo much pain. I had the surgery on the 3rd, excuse me that I don't know all the terms yet. It was supposed to be laproscopic (sp?) with abdominal assist, but I was bleeding too much, so the surgeon took it all out vaginall, including cervix which was not planned.

Last night I felt like my insides that are left would fall out between my legs any minute.

I can't have a BM naturally, I have gone one time since last thursday and had to take a laxative to go.

Feel extremely weak and my stomach is very much bloated, I feel like I am 5 months pregnant.

I know this is a random post, I am up early as I can't sleep much, any info would be much appreciated. In the mean time I will be reading more threads to see what info I can find.

TIA!

Am I just a big baby?

Sounds absolutely normal to me. Actually, you sound like you are doing much better than I was at 1 week postop. I'm at 4 weeks and still having issues. I think you will see that depending on the procedures performed some woman heal faster than others. There are woman that had surgery the same week I did that are already back to work. I'm still a good three weeks away and that is just to get permission to work from home.

You will have changes day to day, week to week. I had two emergency trips to the doctor in my first 2-3 weeks with very heavy bleeding and was told that because of the procedures I had done and the open wound I was left with.....this was normal. I couldn't understand how so much bleeding could be normal but it did get better.

Be patient with your body and rest, rest, rest. That really seems to be the key.

HysterHugs to you,

Am I just a big baby?

Hi, Bless your heart...you are not being a big baby .
You are only 6 days post-op and most all of us here can relate to how you are feeling. You just had major surgery and that's a BIG deal! Sleep and rest as much as you can, drink lots of water (Constipation was a huge problem for me as well. I found Miralax helped the most...it does not stimulate the bowel. It just pulls more water into your colon from your body, therefore, it is not addicting and does not cause cramping.) I was still taking pain meds. at 2 weeks post-op so please take your medicine. It will let your body relax and heal. Weakness and fatigue were also problems for me but my doctor had told me to expect this. Try to be patient (I know it's hard) but give your body the chance it needs to heal well so that you don't have further problems down the road. And remember we're all right here with you cheering you on!!!

s and Blessings, Lisa

Tia, Good Luck on your road to recovery. As the other sisters have said drink plenty of water and rest. I am 2 weeks post-op and that seems to work for me.

Am I just a big baby?

thank you all for your kind words! I slept nearly all day yesterday and tried not to push it. rest really did help, I woke up this morning much better than yesterday morning. I'm going to try and make an outing tomorrow, nothing too strenuous, but enough to feel human again!

Am I just a big baby?

Hi,

this all sounds natural to me....we are all in this together!
for the BM I am taking Colace, and its working worderful for me...it does not make you crampy, but when you go to poo, you dont have to push, and all comes out softly....its great.!

on your first outing, take things easy, dont over do it...on my first outing which was to my mothers house, at night I felt extremely tired and was very swollen....just do short trips until your body gets used to it again....

listen to your body, and do what feels right for you...and in between, rest, rest, rest......

blessings,

Am I just a big baby?

I had my surgery the same day as you, and am doing about the same as you said you are.

Even if I wasnt, no one thinks you're being a big baby, everyone heals differently and experiences things differently.

I am still on my pain meds. I always feel crampy, just sometimes worse than others. At times it's tolerable, but there are still times that I literally lie there and moan in bed. There's a reason why we're given so many weeks off from work, it takes time to recover from this. I'm going to try to focus on my progress week by week, instead of day to day.

Also about the BM, I cant go on my own yet either. I believe at least some of the pain I'm having is from gas and needing to go. Part of it is I cant go, and I'm sure the other part is I'm afraid to push too hard (sorry for being so graphic).

Am I just a big baby?

Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better today. If it's nice outside where you live, take a few minutes to step outside and breath the fresh air. It helps wonders.

Also talk to your dr about a regular schedule for stool softener and Gas-x to help with the bms and bloated feeling. For the first 2 weeks, I took one 100 mg docusate sodium in the morning and 2 at night with a cup of apple juice, and haven't had any problems. Plus I took the allowed dosage of Gas-x every 6 hours, whether I needed it or not. Now I'm on 1 stool softener pill per day, and Gas-x as needed.

You sure aren't a baby. You just had a major operation & it takes a while to heal.Bms got better for me after 2wks.Take a stool softner, drink alot take little walks & eat soft food with lots of fiber like bran flakes, apples, oatmeal. Not gas causing foods like beans. You would feel better a little at a time.If you get in the car dont forget the belly pillow.I stayed in for two wks with the exception of Easter Sunday.Believe me in my group we are 4wks & we are still pampering ourselves....not that anyone else is after 4wks but somebody's gotta do it
