Am I just a big baby?

The biggest thing is to keep things moving through your system. I have been very conscious of ensuring I have a BM every couple of days or so. If you aren't able to have a BM, try stool softeners. I take one to two a day. I drink at least two 20 oz bottles of water each day. I eat high fiber cereal that contains at least 50% of my daily recommended fiber (Fiber One has several options). I avoid constipating foods, if possible. Chocolate, however, is not going away and it's one of the worst. Walk several times a day at whatever pace you can. It keeps things moving internally. If you aren't passing gas and having BMs on a regular basis you will definitely have more pain, as the stuff passing through your system pushes on your incisions. I always feel so much better after I pass anything through my system. Who ever thought having a BM or passing gas would be such a wonderful experience and so truly appreciated? LOL!! And here's the very last tip that is completely bizarre, but for someone with major intestinal issues their entire life, who would know better? When you feel like you might have to have a BM and you are on the porcelain god, sit bolt upright. Don't lean forward. It prohibits things from moving out of your body. If things don't move out as you would prefer, lean slightly from side to side and back upright again. This allows everything to go straight down with no blockage and a little extra encouragement, just in case. And as your doctor says, don't push! LOL!

Happy passing...

You’re not a baby! I understand how uncomfortable not having BM can be. I also had problems. Things I did which helped took colace, milk of magnesia (follow directions), drank prune juice, drank apple juice and ate foods high in fiber. Avoid bananas they can constipate you. You need to rest so your body can heal. Take care!

Hang in there

I know how you feel. I am now 7 weeks post op but remember the first few days I was home. I was holding my belly constantly because it felt as if everything was dropping down and would be at my feet. It does get better. I know it is easy to say be patient but that is exactly what you need to do. Take it hour by hour. I still have days when I feel like things are dropping but they are fewer. Keep your chin up. We are here for you.

Am I just a big baby?

You are not a baby, think of the major surgery you just had and the COURAGE to just do it ..I was a nervous nellie before just having the op. I'm 2 weeks post op today and still sore -more days some than other- and while im not constipated at all, I do have some cramping still but it goes away after BM (sorry if this is TMI) my BF is a nurse and when I asked her about the cramping she assured me this goes along with getting things "back to normal" after having had a major surgery/my Dr office said same thing. Take care and remember to rest, rest rest!!!! wishing you and all the other ladies a speedy recovery!!!!
