Incision care at home - what supplies are needed?

Hi Ladies!

I'm going to call the hospital today and ask them too, but wanted to hear from ladies who've already been there.

What incision care supplies did you need at home? I must get everything taken care of this weekend. My husband is working two full-time jobs and I won't be able to send him out to pick up supplies after I get home from the hospital! At this point it looks like I'm getting myself to the hospital, and I MIGHT see him sometime after I'm in recovery. We haven't yet worked out how I'm getting home!

Any help appreciated. Thank you all very much!

Incision care at home - what supplies are needed?

I had very little incision care to deal with. I had about an 8 or 9 inch long incision with about 15 staples in it. The staples stayed in for me (it varies alot between different doctors and patients) 7 days. I was told to make sure to get them completely dry after a shower, (I used the hairdry, it was easier that a towel), and to let the incision air dry several times a day. I just exposed it to the air while I was sitting around. It was no big deal. I didn't have to cover mine at anytime. I had no real problems with mine and was glad to get the staples out at one week post op. Then I was just suppose to do the same stuff. Really dry after showers and air on it once in a while. Good Luck.

I did not have staples so my care may be different. I was told that at the end of the second week, the tapes should come off either by themselves or by me. I ended up just doing a few each day. I just used soap and water to clean it. I must say, for an incision, mine looks pretty darn good!! I'll be sure to give the DD a round of applause when I see him in 2 weeks.
