What did you take to the hospital?

I was very jittery last Sunday and Monday, after my dr visit Monday I relaxed. Now I feel OK. I am getting my recovery room ready books, magazines, water bottles maybe a couple of snack bars. I live in a two story and have a very attentive husband and son to help but just feel better having some food and water to grap myself quick. Also I have a stash of chocolate in my night stand

Question Sisters what did you take to the hospital??? I have night gowns but is it maybe easier to wear the hospital gown?? I have read all the list here and in the booklet I sent for. Just wanted to know what did you really use and what did you really wish you would have taken??

I went and bought some big panties as suggested on a sale rack at KOHL's. I also bought some mini pads or do I need bigger ones?? I am 60 this year and way past pad knowledge.

Things I am just wondering about??

What did you take to the hospital?

First off Good Luck on Monday!! WOOHOO...

What I took to the Castle fit in a large makeup bag...shamp&cond... my pick...toothbrush and paste...I took panties but only used them the day I came home...I took a book but never read it...the Castles gowns work so much easier with the IV'S ...and my cell phone & charger...I was there for 5 days..got a fever day after surgery so they keep me an extra day...and if you get a plant (hopefully not flowers cause they can cause infection) or gifts they should provide you with bags to take your stuff home.

again Good Luck god speed! see you on the otherside!

Getting ready

Sweetie -

Don't waste time w/ pretty nightgowns. I wore the hospital gowns until I put my clothes on to go home. Be sure to take comfy clothes to wear home. Slippers, chapstick, toiletries, reading material & mints are all you'll need while you are at the castle.

Best of luck to you. You are in my prayers!

What did you take to the hospital?

Glad you've relaxed a little. I really think attitude helps a lot. I took everything that anyone suggested to the Castle with me, but I'm still in my hospital gown, it's just so much more convenient. The sleep mask and ear plugs were a god-send last night, as I was really tired and they were cleaning the room next to mine and really clanking and crashing things around. Having my own pillow has been nice too. I put on a little makeup yesterday and brushed my hair. That made me feel better, but all of the other things I brought except one magazine, have just taken up space. A lot of people really are glad they brought chapstick, but since my lipstick has a sort of chapstick thing that goes over it I haven't needed any. I do think that I will be using some gum later. I've heard that really helps with gas, which hasn't gotten really bad yet, but anything I can do to minimize that situation is good with me. Comfy going home clothes a must.
Good luck. All your sisters will be here waiting.

What did you take to the hospital?

I packed as though I had been evicted from my home and was moving into the hospital.

I took my cd walkman, but never even took it out of my bag. I could never go anywhere without my cell phone. My family confiscated it and actually turned it off. I didn't know it until after I was home. I slept so much that it really didn't matter.

I brought my own jammies because that's what I prefer. I didn't get to wear them except on the car ride home. I stuck with the hospital gown. If I had gotten my catheter out, I would have switched to my new jammies.

As for slippers - I bought this really cute purple hippo slippers. I wore them when I was walking the halls - except the last day (they made for great conversation among visitors, staff and other patients when I finally was able to walk the hall. ) . The I had said that they were not safe - that I might trip. I told her I had been wearing them for the last 4 days. She didn't budge and it wasn't worth arguing. The problem I had was the little grippy socks they gave me kept coming off. I think she tried every size that they had. I then remembered these cute fluffy socks that were in my bag and put them on.

Not only did I bring my own pillows (3 of them), but my niece made me a purple fleece blanket and I brought that too. I used it for the whole stay. I took the hospital blankets off and replaced it with mine. It too sparked lots of conversation. (Can you tell that I like purple?)

I never use lipstick/gloss/or chapstick type stuff. Because I read so much about it on here, I went and bought some. BEST THING I DID. I found that by the second day, my lips were so dry I thought they would fall off.

I actually was glad that I had all this stuff because my stay ended up being extended from 2 to 5 days. My mom stayed with me the whole time and needed many of the things that I couldn't or didn't use.

I brought candy for the staff - which came in handy when one of my s came to visit and had not had lunch. He sat down with the bowl and munched and talked to me for about a 1/2 hour - while I asked a million questions.

I brought books to read, but between the grand and wonderous drugs and the tv, I did more sleeping than anything else.

Well, that's my short list. Good luck.

Hello Lunchlady1948

I too head to the castle on the 14th at 7am. I've cleaned my house really good and I just have to get my resting area together, dog groomed and some more yarn and I'm done

Saturday will be a day of relaxing with all of my old movies
(Bette Davis especially) and I'm making my special pizza with an ice cold pepsi.

God's blessing to both of us .

Here's to recovery!

What did you take to the hospital?

Thanks Sisters I thought using the hospital gown would be better esp with IV's~~I am just going to go home in a long gown, slippers and sweater. Glad you all reminded me of the chapstick and I will take my iPod shuffle has my inspirational music for yoga on it and it really soothes me.

If I have a tv that can entertain me all day. I am there only 2 days hopefully.
My daughter only lives about 2blks from the hospital so she can bring me anything I can not live with out~~~like maybe StarBucks soy lattes will they be allowed

YUP!! I am feeling great~~~I really did scare myself there for a bit glad I got over it I have a great support team so that helps and I want to be strong so my daughters~their girlfriends~my girlfriends and my sons girlfriend will not be afraid if they have to have some procedures down the road
