Pain on left side after LSH- please help

I had a LSH on 3/31. Since then I have had this pain on my lower left side that will not go away. I went to my post op last Monday, told my GYN, he did an ultrasound and said everything is fine- no internal bleeding, etc. I have been given Darvocet, then Percocet, 800mg Ibuprophen and Xanax. NOTHING is helping. The Ibuprophen only curbs the pain. It is a constant throbbing. What could this be???? When I am lying down with a heating pad it is ok. When I get up to do anything it progressively gets worse. But the pain is always there............

Pain on left side after LSH- please help

did you have your urine checked for a uti?
aside from a uti, it could just be the side that was worked on the most and its normal post surgical pain. if it continues, feels worse or does not slowly get better, you might want to call your dr again and let him know.

Pain on left side after LSH- please help

I had a LSH 3/27. I have pain on the left side too. Before I had the surgery my doctor said people have more problems with the left side since the surgical instruments they use are larger on that side. I can tell too because the incision is larger on that side. Since just 3 days after surgery it's only been that left side that hurts. Nothing else hurts at all.

Yesterday at my two week post op I told him I still have pain on that side and he said the same thing again and also said they go through a muscle and the pain can radiate inches away from the incision area through where that muscle runs.

Two days ago it was throbbing for a couple hours but the pain comes and goes. It's not hurting at all right now. I do take 200 mg of ibuprofen to get rid of the pain. Sounds like it's not hurting near as bad as yours but the kind of pain you are describing with the throbbing is just like mine.

My doctor told me I could have pain on that side for 4 more weeks off and on and that is normal.

Pain on left side after LSH- please help

Hi PfromFL,

I too had a LSH.

I agree with Dressedupinblue and Mchell6789. I read the same thing...that the left incision area can sometimes hurt more after a LSH. I know with me..my left incision was larger than my right.

Hope it starts to feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes~

Mary

Thank you for the replies-dressinblue,mychell,historylady....

Yes, my left side is the biggest incision. It took 3 stitches to close- about 1 1/2inches. Thank you for your replies- that makes me feel better that it must be a normal healing process. I'll just have to keep dealing with it- hopfully not too much longer. Yes, he said I did have a slight UTI and I am on Bactrim for that.

Pain on left side after LSH- please help

PfromFL, Is the pain getting better at all yet?

Mine has really gone down a lot. I haven't taken any pain medication at all today and I haven't had any twinges even. Normally I have had some twinges when walking and I didn't have any at all on my walk today. It's still a little tender if I press on the left side though.

Pain on left side after LSH- please help

Hi Mchell

The pain is now and has been for the past 3 days completely across my lower pelvic region (above hairline- sorry so graphic). I got off the Darvocet and Percocet because of insomnia and the times I did sleep I had awful nightmares!! So now I'm just taking the 800 mg Ibuprophen and suffering. I see my GYN next Monday. I'm beginning to wonder if this is normal??
