When you went off the stronger pain meds?

I had pretty much the same experience as Missy. Percocet for about 3 days and then ibuprofen for the next week.

When you went off the stronger pain meds?

I had percocet twice after surgery, then went completely off everything. I have had to take advil since I pulled a shoulder muscle very badly when the nurse was trying to make me rollover that first night after surgery. Everyone is different though, so what you need to take is exactly right for you!

When you went off the stronger pain meds?

I was never on strong pain meds. Not even in hospital. They gave me intramuscular something fake opiats/codeine/whatever, even after I had had asked them not to, as I knew I would react poorly, but after my doctor intervened, (took a few hours) I was on massive doses of over the counter stuff... ibuprofen, acetomenophen, and ketoprofen... sorry my spelling.. but you would not understand the brand names I know them as, and I am too tired to check spelling... it was ok, the over the counter stuff, once i was about 3 days out of the surgery, before then, it was not enough, but it certainly, for me, was much better than the alternative. I do not tollerate being drugged, so for me, pain was better...

Of the options I had, or decided to take, the 1200 to 1800 mg of ibuprofen a day, option, was the most effective and gentle on my stomack. 3 doses, 600 mg each...

When you went off the stronger pain meds?

Hi Shellbear,

I took percocet the first week, my doctor only gave me 20 pills, so I tried to stretch them out as much as I could, then I was taking 800mg of motrin 2 or 3 times a day as needed.

when I tried to get more percocet, my doctor said "no", because of constipation and addiction.....so I really listened
to him because I know of a few friends that ended up addicted to pain meds after surgery....I was afraid this could happen to me....

take care,

blessings,

"Arlynn - I had morphine, muscle relaxers, the whole works in the hospital."

I am sure when I was in surgery and especially in post op, I had all sorts of things given to me, which is why when I no sooner reached the ward, I was throwin up half my intestines... and being somewhat violent and combative as well.
