I'm sorry you still have your catheter. Has your doctor given you any input? Remember that we all heal at our own pace. There's no set time limit that fits all of us. Maybe this is normal for you but not the next person and some women may need the catheter longer.

Be sure to express your concerns to your doctor. He/she will be able to give you the best guidance, but in meantime, we have all the s in the world for you.

I hope someone who had repairs done and a catheter will come along and share their story with you. Hang in there and let us know how you're doing.

s, Deb

I've read on here many women who have had problems urinating and have had to take their catheters home with them. I will be praying for you. Im sure other sisters will be along shortly to share their experiences.
Good luck!

I still have a cath in too... I dont know how normal having one is, but nothing ever "normal" happens to me.. my bladder was injured during my surgery so that is why i have it... i am hoping to get it out onthe 16th after post-op and an xray.. if that looks good i think it will be taken out.... are you taken nitrofuran ? thats what i need to take as long as cath is in... and since the cath is in i have a UTI... i just want it out.. last night i accidently tripped over it and it pulled a little. hurt... it is a challenge to sleep with... i hope yours comes out soon...
i have had a hard time previous surgeries peeing after and a little peppermint oil in the toilet helped. NOT on your skin just in the toilet, something with the fumes really it worked , nurses did it in the hospital...
I think i am getting nervous that the longer it stays in the harder it is going to be for me to go on my own after.. i did pick up some peppermint oil to try if i do have a hard time.. figure if it worked once it may again...
here's hoping you get yours out soon...

I am so sorry you are having this problem.

To find others who may have had similar situations to yours here at Hyster Sisters, go to the Google Search bar at the top right hand side of this page and type in "still have catheter". You will get several pages of results.

It truly does help to read about others who have gone through this process.

I hope your bladder starts working on its own ASAP.

Sending extra good vibes.......

While I can't say my situation was normal, it was certainly not unique either.

Mr. Foley Catheter and I had an 18 day love affair.

I thought mine was coming out 14 days post-op, but it was actually 14 days from discharge from the hospital. My Urologist said that he wanted to give my bladder time to heal - which made sense to me. I figured out how to hook the bag to things at the right height to avoid the discomfort of it not draining. I didn't have pain - so I just lived with it.

Funny thing is, the day that I originally thought that I would get it out (14 days post-op) - I ended up in urgent care because my bag started to fill with blood. I had a UTI. I just knew that they were gonna take it out. NOT!!!!

I think that because I had read on here that people had gone home with the catheter for various reasons that I didn't really worry about it. Until my 6 week appointments, both my s called everyday. So I had the benefit of knowing what was happening and what to expect.

I started having bladder spasms and they said that was a sign of healing.

I guess the only question I have for you is, did your say when you would get it out?

Best of luck to you ...
