Hemoraghing 16 days post op

Hi Sister Friends,

Wondering if anyone out there had a bleed in their vaginal cuff and had to surgery after hyst to fix it. I was 16 days post op after Laprascopic Vaginal Hyst with everything removed (ovaries, tubes, uterus, cervix) healing fine. Up and around, feeling pretty good other than tired. Hadn't really had any spotting to speak of and then all of a sudden, hemoraghing, clots the size of tennis balls, awful, awful. They found a bleeder in the vaginal cuff. The described it as if you had a scab on your knee and the scab tore off and starts to bleed. Well this bleeder was at a vein that just wouldn't stop pumping blood. So they stitched it, put some gauze stuff up there to help it to heal, which I'll pass I guess in a weak or so, and they restitched my vaginal cuff (even though it was fine). My oncologist felt better to restitch. Back to 6 wks and counting. Needed blood transfusions. It was so frightening and I just thought it would be good to share, if anyone had this happen to them. Good news, home, not bleeding and feeling better.

Looking forward to hearing your stories too!

Wow, that is so not good. I am really sorry that happened to you.

That sounds really tough. I wish you a speedy recovery. I think I would freak if that happened to me. You are brave!

Dear warrior sister, I had a similar situation happen 2 weeks post-op. I had a popped stictch at the cuff site, and I too passed a very large clot. Fortunally my clot was not attached to a major vein so it sealed itself off. I had Strick intstructions to lay flat with feet up and rest lots and absolutley no lifting. Had a check-up 4 weeks post-op and doc cut remaining hanging popped stitches, this was painful and caused more bleeding but I hope to be on the right track now. You are not alone in your experience, hope this helps. Best Wishes

Hi Northwest35,

Interesting that they told you feet up. I thought I would hear that but other than no sex, no heavy lifting, no bathing, etc.. for 6 wks from NOW they didn't say to stay off my feet at all. They actually told me to not stay in bed, be up and moving but obviously take it easy. I'm scared to death so I'm on my backside and don't intend to move no matter what they say. Sometimes the "old school " mentality works better. Let's face it, our mothers and grandmothers would have heen hospitalized for a week after a hysterectomy with strict instructions for bed rest only for 6-8 wks. What was wrong with those instructions?? NOTHING ! But it just is interesting how each dr says different things.

I also sometimes think older ways are better, but we have to love modern medicine. Most surgeries I have had are outpatient or 24 hour stay its incredible how soon they send us home. I guess the best we can do is listen to our own bodies and get lots of rest. Keep us posted.

Had the bleed luckily as I was being released from hospital. Rushed in for emergency surgery and had transfusion. Scariest thing ever. 2 years later FSD and finally seeing specialist. I know ur pain and fear...wish someone had prepared us for this possibility,

Warriors-
The SAME exact thing happened to me. I was 12 days post op. It happened on Christmas day around 1:00 am. I lost so much blood I ended up having to receive 3 units of blood after emergency surgery on Christmas day. It was by far the most horrific and scariest thing I have EVER experienced. I thought I was going to bleed to death. There was a little, punk ER doc who was refusing to page my surgeon because it was Christmas day. Finally, after pulling clot after clot out of me and not being able to stop the bleeding he paged my surgeon (sorry if TMI). I stayed in the hospital for a couple of days but came home SOOOOO weak. I was so scared when I came home from the hospital I would not sleep with the light out because I was scared that the bleeding would start again. I made it through with LOTS of prayer!! And help from my family. It was a VERY long healing process. In fact -this has been my best week post surgery.
I would like to extend encouragement to you - It will get better and you will recover from this trauma both physically and psychologically. I often say that IF I would have known... I would not have had this surgery but I really needed it. Please keep me posted on how you are doing and I promise you that you will be in my prayers.
