I feel terrible for you but also find comfort hearing your story. I've only heard from you and one other sister that they shared the same trauma. Was it your vaginal cuff or your stitches??? Did they tell you? I needed two units of blood. My Hematacrit was only 24 which means you are down 1/3 your blood supply so if you needed 3 units it sounds like you were even worse than me. When your Hematacrit is at 20, your vital organs begin to be at risk. They tried to stitch me in the ER but unsuccessfully and then had to have emergency surgery. I was lucky, one of the docs that did my hysterectomy was the one who came in from home to help me in the ER and then when she couldn't stitch the problem in the ER, my Oncologist immediately came in. What a jerk that punk was, hu? When you look back on those things after, don't you wish you really gave it to them. It sounds like it took you a LONG time to bounce back. DId you have abdominal Hyst or laprascopic? Just curious.

I'm doing better but very very tired. Just added to the tiredness. Tonight I actually went to my 16 yr old sons class ring ceremony. It was about an hour and I was with my husband and now I'm ready to collapse. It was a beautiful day today and that always makes me feel better but was very teary eyed earlier today just thinking of all that has happened in such a short period of time. It's good to stay busy, isn't it? Smell the flowers, feel the sun on your face. It definitely helps with the spiritual healing.

Bleed out

I was just released by my dr. when I started to bleed out and after 5 minutes had to threaten the assistant nurse to call for help, the lead nurse walked in and within 1 minute there were 4 doctors and 4 lead nurses trying deperately to pack me. I was scared to death..they rushed me in to surgery and the surgeon (i did not know) said "why are you crying" I said I don't want to die. He said dont be ridiculos and walked away...what a jerk, I had never ever saw so much blood. Later I was told how lucky I was that I was still in the hospital when this happened. I would have never had this surgery had I know about the bleed out or the lose of the O. Hope is on the horizon - specialist seeing me and hopefully she thinks I will resume my normal life.

I had a Davinci Robotic assisted lap hysterectomy. All was going well with my recovery before the bleed. After my 2nd surgery my hemaglobin was a 5 which I have heard is compatible with death. Because I was severely anemic it has taken me longer to recover. I went back to work at 7 weeks post op but was definitely not functioning at full capacity. I lost 57 lbs from 12/12-3/1. Finally - around March I started doing much better and now I feel like I am finally on my way to resuming my normal life. Hubby and I are just starting to get our "love life" back together. We did not even try sex until I was 3 mos post op. Even though I was cleared we were both scared.

Warrior - even though I am very sorry that you had to experience this "less traveled" road I also find comfort in knowing that you to made it through! I know that it is only by the grace of God that I lived to share my story. My best friend was with my husband and I at the ER. She held one hand as my husband held the other while the ER doc tried to pack my vagina. They both said it was the most horrific sight they had ever seen. She described it as looking like a chocolate fountain. Once my surgeon got to the hospital he was able to pack me correctly (the ER doctor did not) and the bleeding was stopped even before surgery. If they would have assessed me quicker and not hesitated to call my doc I would not have loss so much blood.

Hope this was not too much information. This is the first time I have shared my experience with so much detail. I hope it helps someone.

That's incredible ! They should be sued !!! But what I don't understand is the FSD due to the bleedout or to the hysterectomy? May be a stupid question and maybe I'm being naive but should I be concerned about sex with my husband once I recover from the surgery because of the vaginal cuff bleeding?? I'm scared AGAIN. I mean I understand this "can" happen due to the hysterectomy BUT am I missing something that relates to "bleed". HELP ME UNDERSTAND !

YOU'VE DEFINITELY HELPED ME !!!! I have, too, great comfort in knowing we are strong and can beat the odds. What happened a few days ago is still sureal to my husband and I both! I live an hour from the hospital and my husband drove me there. I knew when I passed the very first clot that something was very very wrong, so I called the emergency # for my dr. and we left for the hospital. I too, have never ever seen so much blood. As we were getting closer to the hospital the clots were passing by the minute the size of tennis balls!. As you are telling your stories, I feel like I'm with you as it's happening because of it just happening to me. I know that God was with me and my parents, (both passed away to cancer when I was 20 yrs old - a year apart). I felt them helping me through it. They wouldn't let my husband in the room while they were trying to stitch me up so that was upseting. It will all get better won't it? I feel like I'll be having nightmares about this forever. My husband and I both have said that we think we will take the 6-8 wks to resume sex and multiply it by at least 2. There are other ways to have an "O". ! Not taking any chances either ! He may be even more scared than I am! Not to wish the time away BUT, I am looking forward to 3-6 months from now when, hopefully, I can look back and say, "wow, I didnt' think I'd ever get over all that but look at me now !"

Ladies -

I'm so sorry you have had to go through such trauma! I did not have that but I had other serious complications that also threatened my life and resulted in another surgery.

What I want to share is that it will get better. I am 9 weeks out now from surgery number 2 and each week I feel a little stronger and a little less scared of it happening again. In fact some days I don't think about it much!!Imediatley after, like you I was devastated and fearful. Once I pass the 13 week mark where my major issue happened I know I will truly feel better.

Good Luck to you and may this be the last of your problems!!!

Starbgirl - Thanks for sharing - I have followed your story and I am so thankful that you are doing better. You too have had a LONG road and I pray that the rest of your recovery is uneventful.

Warrior - ONLY because I am a little further down the road I want to share a few tips:

1. TAKE YOUR TIME to heal. Do not be disappointed if it takes you longer than the text book. You have had a major complication and scare. Your body will need extra time to heal as will your mind and spirit.
2. Trust the Lord. He will pour out his peace to you and will give you rest all you have to do is ask.
3. Your husband sounds like mine. He will be patient with you and himself once you all start trying. You know how you hear all those stories of ladies bleeding after trying sex? Well because we waited SOOO long... No problems. Your relationship will be closer than ever because you know how precious life is.
4. Journal - Journal your story of your recovery. This helps with getting out your feelings and being able to reflect to see how far you have come.
5. Don't be afraid to seek counseling. I briefly suffered from what I think can be called post traumatic stress. I talked with a couple at my church (a doctor and nurse) and this helped but I also had to rely on my close friend and husband. I cried everyday for months.
6. Each benchmark will help to ease your fears. Week one, Week two, One month, etc.
7. Sister - I have been down this road and this is a tough journey but I know God's grace and mercy will see you through.
