CANT POOP! No other way to put it. I feel like I am about to go, then the troops retreat. I am afraid to push too much, but honestly I do not know how much "too much" is.

I am drinking LOTS of fluids. Been drinking Gatorade G2 all day. I would say that I am easily drinking 64 ounces a day. I thought that my first real cup of coffee would get things moving, but nope! I'm feeling a little cramped up down there. As for any vaginal area or incision area, I feel no pain.

Doc put me on Colace two times a day. Doesnt seem to be working, and I am three days post-op.

Everything else has been a cakewalk, but this has me concerned.

Help?

Along with the colace try milk of magnesa & drink prune juice. I also had this problem. The pain meds cause constipation. Follow the directions on the milk of magnesa. If this doesn't work call your Dr.

I am in the exact same boat. Unfortunately I ended up going about 5 days without anything and it was not fun. I ended up having to use suppositories and laxatives to get things moving. The Ducolax suppositories helped somewhat. I am now trying to wean off my pain pills slowly and trying everything I can to get back to "normal" with BMs. I strained on day 5 and was so sore and afraid I had done some damage, but am feeling a little better now. I just know I can't do that again. So I am doing the prune juice, stool softeners, and occasional laxative. Everyone says it will get better but ugh, this part is awful! I see my doctor on Monday and am hoping he'll have some suggestions. Hang in there, you are not alone!

My doc says only worried about passing gas. Probably not pooping 5 to 6 days out! After that take Colase. But today I am 5 days out from a Total Hysterectomy including tubes and overies. I asked my hubby to pray that I poop today and I had to call him back and say okay enough prayers there! I was a bit apprehensive, but it all came out well. As my granddaughter would say, I did a SUPER Poop. Hope that helps. It will come as your system gets back to working

I can sympathize with you. I had the same problem. I continued to take the stool softeners but wanted to stop. I slowly cut down and then the minute I stopped I went 4 days without anything. I was straining as well. Finally I got a fleet enema and gave it to myself to get me started again. I then started taking the stool softeners again. In addition, I bought prunes and apricots. I would check with your doctor. I can only tell you what worked for me. Good luck.

You can try this;

My bf is a nurse & when I told her all the ladies here having problems going, she told me a nurse trick.

It's called a Brown Cow;

30 cc's milk of magnesia
1 cup prune juice

She said it's guaranteed to make you go if you're constipated. Do not use if you are impacted, or already have a loose stool. Good luck sweetie.

Do you have any green tea? If so, make yourself a pot of tea and drink it. I will bet you anything that will get things going.

Good luck.

For me, it was on the Friday of my surgery (which was on a Monday). I simply drank a lot of water, ate some prunes and realized how much I really like them, took a daily stool softener and ate roughage with each meal.

Don't rush it and do not strain. I remembered something that my Dr told me when my daughter was born, he said "just this 'down and out' baby." She was born with no drugs and no pain...so I took the same approach to pooping and it worked...."down and out poop!"
