Numb Face, Hands, Feet

Hi,
I am a little over 5 months post-op. For about the last month I have been experiencing tingling and numbness in both sides of my face, my tongue, my hands and my feet. I have anxiety and depression so I thought maybe it was that, but I am not feeling any better. I have extreme health anxiety that sends me over the edge so I am trying really hard not to freak out.
I was very iron deficient prior to my surgery but my iron was up on my surgery date as a result of taking iron supplements. I have not taken any since my surgery.
Could this be hormonal? I have my left ovary removed but still have the right one. I am not having any joint or muscle pain.
Please help. Of course I am scared of MS or a brain tumor because that is where my anxiety takes me first.
Thanks.

It could be many things so don't jump to conclusions yet. Make an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can get one so that you can get to the bottom of this. The longer you wait the more you are going to worry. When you call to make the appointment let the scheduler know what your symptoms are so that you can get in earlier rather than wait for the first appointment available. Good luck and let us know what you find out!

I am going to agree on the call your doctor posts, but I also am going to ask if you are on any types of medication. I ask this because I take Topamax for migraines and it lowers my potassium. You are describing the symptoms I get from that. I can fix it by eating potassium rich foods, drinking citrus juice, or drinking V8 juice on a daily basis.

My aunt donates platelets and those are also the symptoms that can sometimes happen when your body is too low on calcium from the donation. Maybe a calcium supplement, or bone strengthening exercises may be something you should ask about as well because you may have gone into menopause or menopause-like symptoms.

Good luck and let us know what the doctor tells you!

(((kat1228))) - Please do give your doc a call. Let us know what you find out. Hopefully, this is something minor that can be easily resolved.

Hi,
Thanks everyone. I am not on any meds. I will call my Dr. but it will make me more anxious I am afraid.

You need to get to the Doctor. The tingling is trying to tell you something.

The tingling could be many things, including medication reaction. It could also be low blood sugar. Speculation aside, the best of luck to you.

In the meantime, relax as much as you can as anxiey won't fix it. If it helps, I have a family with lots of MS. I assure you that none of them started their MS with tingling.

I went to the Dr. today. They are checking my calcium, B12, thyroid, iron levels, vitamin D, maybe a couple other things I can't remember them all. Basically for vitamin deficiencies. The Dr. said it is most likely overbreathing from anxiety or the fact that my iron was so low for so long before my surgery it could be that I need to go back on iron supplements. Thanks for your support. I should know something by Friday.
