LH and feeling defensive...

Hi Worried 1961. I had a lap with 5 tiny incisions too. Pre-surgery my surgeon was highly confident I would be up and about in no time and fine to go on an overseas trip planned just 5 and a half weeks later as this is usually the case with his patients. I was highly motivated to recover well too and look after myself as I wanted to go on my trip too.

But it turned out once he operated that I needed much more surgery than anyone had anticipated and ended up also with a re-section of the bowel as well as the hyster, removal of one of my ovaries and extensive resections of areas affected by endosalpingosis. My surgery went for 3 times longer than he had expected. To top it off, I ended up in hospital 3 times longer (9 days) because I had post-op complications too. He has told me I have hundreds of internal stitches and no matter how I feel or how tiny the external incisions, I need to take it very easy right up to mid-June! The point of all this is that no matter what the "norm" is with this surgery, or how positive or competent we or our surgeons are, each operation is different and each body is different. Its not like we are cars going in for a service with easy to replace parts! There will always be someone that had a great experience and others that have complications and difficulties. Likewise there are always those around us that like to comment on the business of others when they should keep their views to themselves. But dont be worried by the opinions of others or you'll just go crazy with it and you can't manage your recovery from crazytown. Just take the time you need to heal and recover well at your own pace. As the sisters say there is just one chance to recover well. Hope you feel better soon and don't forget to

Blessings, Alison
