Questions about 1st post-op appointment

Hi Ladies i just wanted to find out what was done at your 1st post-op visit. I have been told by my Dr's personal assistant that he would not be doing a internal exam just checking incision site and going over reports with me. I am 7 weeks post-op and i had a total abdominal HST with a up and down incision. I really dont want an internal!!! Can i refuse? I am doing good other than a burning feeling in lower right pelvic are which his P.A. said was perfectly normal. I called her yesterday because i thought it might be infection. She also said they could give me a non narcotic medicine that would help. The pain is not as bad as before, it comes and goes. But i am hoping there are others that didnt have an internal as i have read many posts stating they had had quite a few. could my Dr's P.A. have been fibbing?

Questions about 1st post-op appointment

I can't believe your first pos-op is at 7wks..am I wrong here? My first was 3wks to check incision and then 5wks to do internal..You said you had a total...so you lost cervix and have a vaginal cuff. I may also be wrong here but how does he know cuff is healing if not internal? Is he going to make a lucky guess?

I wasn't exactly looking forward to an internal but I did want to make sure I was healing right. It did not hurt. He looked using spectrum then felt in there with his hand..wasn't exactly a turn on but it didn't hurt.

Questions about 1st post-op appointment

My first post-op was yesterday at 2 weeks. The worst part was the 2-hour wait..., however it was just an incision check and going over reports, as peyton10's dr. assistant said. It seems from what I've read that the protocol varies from doctor to doctor. I will not have further followup for one year, unless I call with a problem. She went over the restrictions again - lifting, etc, gave me my date to go back to work. She reiterated no sex until after six weeks as long as I have stopped bleeding - if I am still bleeding between weeks four and five, I am to go back in to have my cuff checked internally. That's how she handles it.

Questions about 1st post-op appointment

The reason i haven't already had an appt is because my original Dr sent me to a oncologist gynecologist specialist and he is 2 and a half hours away. I had my surgery in Indianapolis at St. Vincents hospital. They had suspected cancer but thankfully it was benign. But anyway he comes to a hospital here specifically for his patients in my area only a couple times a month, so that is why. this will probably be the last time i will see him, i will be going back to my original Dr for things in the future. the oncologist gynecologist is the one who performer my surgery. Thanks for the info
