PLEASE HELP! I'm freaking out here! Bleeding 11 days post op.

Slims1969,
I had a TVH with similar recovery story. On Day 10 got up to potty & red blood, but it stopped within 30 minutes. On day 12 got up to potty & red blood. Again, it stopped within 30 minutes. Both times my guy wanted me to call the Dr. I'm not one to panic so told him "no, lets wait and see what happens". The bleeding stopped so no need to call. On day 14 got up to potty, red blood dripping like a faucet. I could hear it hitting the toilet water. This time I could tell things were different. It didn't stop and within 30 minutes I was passing clots. 1 hour later I was at emergency, feeling like I was bleeding to death. Turned out stitiches at the cuff had dissolved too quickly. 3 days later, I had out patient surgery so my Dr could restich the part of the cuff that had come unstitched. It's been 2 weeks and so far, so good. However, I have been extra cautious about everything I do.

What's interesting to me, is that after finding this site and reading a few stories, I guess what I thought was "not doing anything", was doing something. On day 8 I was feeling great. I drove to the grocery store and shopped alone(nothing "heavy"...the heaviest was a gallon of milk). I now know that was too heavy and I shouldn't have been driving. During the night on day 9 I had a cough attack, but I didn't hurt enough to get me up to drink water to stop it.(which I had been doing the the days prior) I didn't think it was too much until I was bleeding the next morning. On day 11 I spent most of the day on our recliner couch, pushing the leg support in & out, up & down. Using those abdominal muscles. Still can't figure out what I may have done to bleed so heavily on the 14th, maybe it was just the result of previous incedents and further stitch disolving. Treat yourself like a delicate flower. Be careful. I hope all works out well for you.

Update

Sorry it's taken so long to get back with everyone... I went with my gut and decided to stay off my feet completely until I could call the DR office Monday morning and they told me to come in that afternoon. Turns out I had ripped a couple stiches and burst a blood vessel. He said that it is not uncommon and it may have been from something I did...bending over to fast, reaching too high, lifting something that was too heavy, etc. or it just happens sometimes. He put a speculum in and put that liquid stiches stuff on the areas and then checked me for any hemotomas (there were none). OMG IT HURT!!! even after I had taken a Vicoden like an hour prior! I haven't bleed since though, so everything seems to be okay and now my BF won't let me do anything.... and I mean anything! I have to go back in tomorrow morning to take the catheter out again and see if I can urinate on my own yet. I've had this thing in for two weeks now and although I've gotten used to it, I'm growing very weary of it... so everyone please pray for that I can pee!

I will concentrate really hard on sending all my best thoughts your way in hopes that you can pee!

I'm glad to hear you were able to see the doc and get the problem taken care of--and that it wasn't anything too serious.

Try to enjoy your enforced rest time as much as you can. Read, write, nap watch trashy daytime tv, and try to think of it as a mini-vacation.

PLEASE HELP! I'm freaking out here! Bleeding 11 days post op.

I have had a haematoma too since 5 days after surgery. I am still bleeding and I am at the 4 week mark. My specialist has been in regular contact with me and says that so long as I am not going through more than 3-4 pads a day, even though it might seem to heavy up, have small clots etc from time to time, this is normal as it needs to break up and drain away and this can take a while. He also indicated that even if this kept up for another several weeks, this is not something to worry about unless the bleeding exceeds the 3-4 pads a day. The other thing is he has me regularly monitoring my temperature and if it rises I have to get in touch with him. I am on loads of iron while this is happening but mostly I'm feeling okay and feel I am steadily improving but bleeding is much the same. He has been checking my iron levels through blood tests too.

Hope all works out for you. I would not be rushing off to the ER if I was in your position either but try not to worry too much but do get in touch with your usual gyno who did the surgery and just check it all out as soon as you can.

Cheers

Alison
