Ladies that are 4mos post op...Is this normal

I did have complications and had another emergency surgery on 12/25 after my hys on 12/12. I was wondering if any of you ladies that had surgery around my same time - experience any of these things:

1. Still have swelly belly. Good in morning but by evening swollen.
2. Pelvic pain NOT all the time but intermittently throughout the day. On a scale of 1-10 - probably a 3.
3. Some days my belly feels normal but then other days it will still feel sore and tender.
4. Mood swings galore: sad, depressed, panic, etc. I am journaling my symptoms and mood swings and there does seem to be a pattern so I think it could be do to my cycle because I still have my ovaries.... but its hard to tell with no period.

Please share what you are experiencing. I am seeing a pain management doc, physical therapist and keeping close to my Primary doc. I have lost 57 lbs since December and even though for the most part I am starting to feel pretty good and still have these lingering symptoms. Because I had such a hard time and nearly bleed out before my 2nd surgery I think that has made me more fearful and extra cautious. Sorry so long... Any info would be helpful.

Yes to #1 and #3 - except that actually my belly never feels "normal". I would think that the bulge is just fat - however, is fat suppose to feel hard at times? I think I'm going to make an appt with my Dr. Also, abdomen is still numb in places and the skin hurts at times. I hope you are feeling much better soon! Mariah

Belljbug, I am three months out post-op and:
1. still have swelly belly as you describe.
2. pelvic discomfort on occassion...when it occurs maybe 3 or 4.
3. yep, I've had about 5 days straight recently of my belly generally sore and tender to the light touch.
4. not so much the extreme moods, but on occassion get morose or depressed. I usually snap out of it after a day.
For the physical belly pains, I'm still taking 600 to 800 mg ibuprofen, as needed, daily. I also still take the stool softeners -- the slightest back-up causes me great discomfort. I just purchased more Colase to help on those days I need to get things moving. I also have the gas issue, so I keep up the Gas-X and Maalox.

I've have no apparent reason to be alarmed by these symptoms. I am just making this assumption that the body has been traumatized and it is going to take a period of time longer that I really expect.
Remain close with all your medical professionals and do as you are. Let them know the pattern of pain, etc.
I hope all is well for you!

Ladies that are 4mos post op...Is this normal

Wow so many still having discomfort and I thought I was the only one. I had my TAH on 1-10-08 and I have so much numbness on one side of my belly above my scar and then right next to that I have this burning pain over the rest of the site. I still can hardly stand to wear clothing on the area at times because of the tenderness and almost rashy sensation without the rash. I also have some hardening in the area. I am starting to think I may need to check up with Doc.

I have also been having a lot of tenderness in my breast, which I never had before, and some crampy type pains at the time that I feel should be my normal cycle as I also still have both ovaries. My Doc did tell me ahead of time that I may still have some cramps and such, but I found the breast
soreness interesting, considering the only time I had ever had that was when I was first pregnant with my son over 18 years ago. Odd!

Have any of you spoken to your Doc and if so what responses have you gotten?

I right there with you - 11 weeks since TAH and BOO :

1) swelly belly all day long and it's getting BIGGER - and is HARD (whats with that?)
2) the lightest touch on certain parts of my belly (way above the incision) hurts like the dickens
3) have pain up near my belly button that is different then any oterh that I had to date - started 3 weeks ago - does nto move, feels like it is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch under the skin and then deeper - rather then a deep pain. I shy away from anything toughing my belly - even lightly due to this pain
4) sharp buring pains at times - today I bent over an dgot a searing burning throbbing pain in the middleof my belly - went away soon after straitening up

What is with all this and why did my Dr not tell me about this? He acts like it is all in my head (says I am over sensative and over aware...) Also does nt think I should be hurting anymore (from what I can tell). Isee him this week - don't expect to know too much more after that appt though..

I also have swelly belly at night. Occasional discomfort if I am on my feet a lot. Mood swings, etc are getting much better now that I have found my dosage of HRT. Even sleeping all thru the night. My doc said it could take 6 months to a year for me to "feel normal". I am not rushing it and take it one day at a time. Incision is also still tender in places and numb in others. Best wishes to all.

Still have swelly belly. The area is still numb and sore. I am five months out an attempted some abdominal excercises. That was a mistake. Emotional still. I am angry about the surgery and the complications after. Hang in there, you're not alone.

Sorry to say this is what I am going through too, and I'm almost 6 months post-op. My swelly belly has gotten worse in the past month; it no longer goes down during the night. I don't have "pelvic pain" anymore, but I have a spot just left of my belly button that is incredibly sensitive, even to touch. I made an appointment to see my doc later this week, as I am concerned that there is something else going on. I'll keep you posted on what he says. In the meantime all we can do is hang in there, right? I'm praying that he orders an ultrasound or something, if I hear "Recovery can take up to a year you know..." one more time I think I'll scream. I just want to have some peace of mind that this IS normal, and if it isn't, make a plan to fix it during my "vacation" this summer.
Hang in there sisters!

JosieKiss - Yes Please! tell us what the Dr says if the pain near the belly button - mine is left of it as well (and under it ..but not much to the right side).. I seey Dr Thursday but that is never a good or helpful session. He was talking about a CT scan though...so we will see.

Good luck -

Ladies - thank you for sharing. Please keep us all posted. You ALL will be in my prayers. My sense is that all is normal just VERY frustrating. People kept telling me that I would feel better after my surgery than I did before. When??????????????????
