Trying to avoid surgery

I am so sorry for everyone who is having to go through another surgery to remove an ovary. I too have my left ovary remaining, and I'm gaining lots of weight. I'm pretty sure one/or more cysts have attached themselves to my poor lillte left ovary. I don't want to go through another surgery!!! Does anyone know of another procedure that the dr could perform to avoid surgery? I'll pray for everyone who's going through this.

Trying to avoid surgery

neke,
When I first started with my female problems and having issues with cysts, my doctor's first course of treatment was birth control pills to try and shrink the cysts. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes cysts go away on their own also. Have you spoken with your doctor? Have you had any tests to determine the size and location of the cyst? Those factors may determine the next step.

Trying to avoid surgery

Neke,
I also have a cyst on my left ovary. I really don't want another surgery, but my doctor is going to try to remove just the cyst and not the ovary. I am sorry I don't have another solution for you. I know exactly how you feel. I had decided that my hysterectomy was going to be my last surgery, but I guess I was wrong. I hope you find a solution to help you feel better. Hang in there and take care.

Doesn't work too well, does it? I had decided that too, and five months later ended up having a laparoscope to remove adhesions and a hemorrhagic cyst from my right ovary. Now having more pain, 5 weeks later mind you, on the right side again. He doesn't want to, nor do I want him to, take my ovary. Worried about telling him Wednesday at my post op, because I've been through so much in the last 6 months, that my body and my mind can't take much more.

neke: I'm sorry I don't have any advice. I'm still trying to figure it out myself. I wish the best for you though!

Thanks for your advice. I'm going to the dr on the 29th. I'm sure my dr will send me for an us to find out how many/location and all of that. I hope she has some other options other than another surgery!! I'll keep you posted.

No More Surgeries

I had my hysterectomy on Feb 13, 2007 with a tummy tuck also. It was a very difficult recovery but I got throught it and thought that would be the end of it. But I went to the doctors about three weeks ago with pain on my right ovary and very bloated uncomfortable feeling I knew something was going on. Turns out I have two cysts. I have had them before but never felt this much pain. He put me on birth control pills which I am done with tomorrw. Some days I feel great other days like today I feel really bad.

My question is I am thinking about having my right ovary taken out and the tube also. I am worried about going through menopause. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Trying to avoid surgery

Im not sure but the ovary does not always have to be removed they can just remove the cyst I believe.
I have been reading up on this following my recent problems- using google mainly sites in the uk.

If you search under ovarian cyst it throws up lots of information and ovary removal is really a last resort.

However I know the pain is dreadful and quite honestly at one point last week I would have agreed to it - cos the pain was so bad.

sorry to hear how you are suffering. Im looking into how this can be controlled and prevented but there is not a lot of information on this.

best regards and hope you get some good answers from your visit to doctor.

best regards

Trying to avoid surgery

Thanks for your help. I have been doing some research myself and the reason why I was thinking about having the right one removed is because I am afraid that the cysts will come back and I will be back where Iwas. It is very frustrating to have to think about having another surgery. I thought that having the other surgery would of gotten rid of all of my problems becuase I had fibriods but I guess not.

My doctor did say at my last appointment when he did the sonogram that if they did not go away he would have to remove them.

The problem is I don't think it can be controlled unless you are on the pill which is suppose to help which I can't take I am diabetic and it raises my sugar or you have your ovaries removed. I would have both of my ovaries out if I wasn't afraid of going through menopause. So may problems and not enough answers.
