Straining w/ BM after AP repair and sphincteroplasty

Hi, girls.....

I am currently six weeks post op TVH, AP Repair, and overlapping anal sphincteroplasty. I've suddenly become constipated again. I've strained with a few BMs. I am taking the stool softeners again and have been on Konsyl fiber twice a day for about three weeks now.

Anyway.....I've made my bottom pretty sore. Between straining and just having so much pressure from needing to go.

What are the dangers of straining at six weeks with my type of procedures? I'm only having a teeny-tiny bit of bleeding where the open wound is healing but that doesn't worry me as much as the soreness of my anus from straining. I know it's TMI but I'm just curious if there are any warning signs that I may have done something by straining.

I have my weekly doctor's appt on Thursday so I'll know for sure then but it's just my curiosity that is killing me. I'm so uncomfortable but hopefully I'll have some releif before Thursday.

Denise - I don't know what can happen, but I used the Miralax. That and the stool softeners (2x day) and I didn't have to do a thing - it would just come out. TMI - I know!!!

Then after a while I added the Metamucil wafers and got rid of the Miralax and one stool softener. I am still doing the wafers and one stoool softener and it is working SO well.

Are you taking anything other than the softeners to help??

Right now I was only taking this Konsyl fiber that my doc says she also uses. I weaned myself off of the stool softeners a couple of weeks ago. I took one tonight. I'll take one tomorrow. too.

I'm just concerned that I may have done something to myself by straining. I'll find out on Thursday. My recovery is taking so long I just don't need any more complications.

Denise - Ask your Dr if you can try the Miralax. Tht stuff was a miracle for me. My cuff had alot of trouble healing and when I would strain it would bleed - alot!!

The thing I liked about the Miralax is that it caused no intestinal cramping or distress at all. It just produced a very comfortable, easy to pass BM.

Good luck and you are right - no more issues for you!!

Hugs,
