How big was your uterus at surgery?

Hi everyone

I'm so curious if anyone knows how big your uterus was at the time of surgery. Mine was 30 x 25 x 25 cm!!!! No wonder I was feeling so yucky for so long b4 surgery. I vaguely remember my surgeon telling me I had 3 large fibroids, and he showed me with his hands how big they were. I wasn't sure if I was imagining that or if it was the morphine ;-)

My incision is all the way up my tummy, around my belly button, and up a little bit more. I'm sooooo glad it's out now.

How big was your uterus at surgery?

Hi I had a TAH/BSO with the same incision as yours because of the size of my ovarian cyst. I know I looked 8 months pregnant by the time of the op. A cat scan put the size at 22 weeks and that was 2 months before!I shall find out more at the post-op in a few weeks, but considering it weighed 10lbs. I am definately flatter and lighter now!!!

How big was your uterus at surgery?

the nurse said there wasn't any information about weight or size in the pathology report. I found that strange. I really wanted to know that information! I guess it didn't weigh as much as I thought because I didn't lose a significant amount of weight and my belly isn't as flat as I thought it would be either!

How big was your uterus at surgery?

I sure have been very curious as to everything now that the surgery is OVER!!! My post op isn't until the end of May so I'll ask more specifics to my surgeon. My family doc gave me the discharge summary sheet where it stated the size of my uterus. I'm so curious to know more! When I had my ultrasound 8 weeks b4 surgery, she figured there were 20lbs of fibroids, and a specialist said my uterus was like a 6 month pregnancy. I am smaller .....besides swelly belly :-(..... but I sure didn't lose 20 lbs!!! Dammit!!

How big was your uterus at surgery?

I only had one uterine cyst, but it was the size of a 5 month pregnancy.

I can now sneeze without my bladder leaking, and my back hasn't bothered me since surgery! Considering that I used to land in the ER at least once or twice a year with a back sprain, that's wonderful!

Preop my MD was estimating about a five or six month preg size. I knew it would be large because I could feel it. But I was more obsessed with the weight of it, I really wanted it to weigh about 20 lbs, alas it was only about 2 lbs. oh well.

Right after my surgery my doctor produced a photo my excized uterus, tubes, ovaries and a large pedulcated (sp?) fibrioid (outside of the uterus). I was still in a haze, but my first thought was "****! no wonder I felt so rotten." After their initial queasiness, my friends and family were shocked to see it and some of the less empathetic ones (aka, males) said, wow, guess you were sick. I felt vindicated.

According to the pathology report my uterus was about 11 cm wide and 22 cm long (about 4" x 8"). It was reddish lumpy and all distorted and lopsided. Next to my uterus was round white thing that reminded me of a large onion. That was the pendulcated fibroid. It measured another 11 cm and was almost perfectly round. It had gone undetected in all my ultrasounds and was jammed behind my uterus in my lower pevic (butt) area. It had caused severe back pain, constipation and that annoying feeling that I was sitting on a cantaloupe.

I'm about 10 weeks post op and finally starting to feel slightly normal. Finally moving around and back to work full time. Not taking HRT. Suffering through the surgical menopause, major hot flashes, fatigue, achey joints. But overall doing better. No regrets.

How big was your uterus at surgery?

HI, My GP assisted at the surgery and she told me it was the size of a small football. Didn't think to ask her for details, but I had a lot of fibroids ( had fibroid surgery 17 yrs ago, prior to getting pregnant with my son shortly after that). Anyhow, they regrew and she did tell me she joked with the surgeon about him delivering a baby, because there was a large fibroid on the outside that looked like a nose (kinda gross, kinda funny). So, I'm gathering the whole mess was big. I have stomach rolls anyway, but I do believe I am flatter down there, at least a little! My incision was horizontal, just above the pubic area, and through my previous scar, and he did say he had a hard time getting it out. Cheers,,,,and no regrets either. It does seem like my bladder holds more now.

How big was your uterus at surgery?

My uterus was the equivalent to 20 weeks. My fibroid was larger than a grapefruit and my ovaries were 4 x the normal size with endometriomas on both. If you are really curious, ask your doctor or call the hospital medical records department and request a copy of your pathology report. Then you can compare what the norms are and what yours were.
