Sorry, one week post-op no bm

I am 4 mos PO and am just realizing that no matter how much water I drink or walking I do my bowel movements are not going to be the same as pre-hyst. I don't like taking a pill everyday so I drink a cup of Senna tea, it's easier and more relaxing than the stool softener, laxitive, fine for a couple of days, no go, yo-yo! find what works for you and take care of your body.

Sorry, one week post-op no bm

I have found thru past abd. surgeries that the best is the more natural - everything else for me caused more problems, gas, urgency, diarreah.
I started as soon as nausea was over bran cereal every AM. And even with Percocet bm's were no issue this time. (1st time painful, but gets easier each time). So do what ever is better for you, bran cereals or muffins, prune juice, what ever your body likes

I had the same problem after coming home from the hospital - I was eating fruit like crazy and jello and didn't have a BM for 9 days - I was getting scared and then all of a sudden it happened - then it went to the opposite where I couldn't stop going - what I'd suggest is to walk and move around - the pain pills numb the feeling that you have to go and just wait - everything now is fine with me - hope this helps you knowing others experienced the same problem - if it continues though - you should contact your doctor

It will happen!!

It took me almost 8 days to have a BM. My nurse suggested Dulcolax and Colace. Finally the combo worked. I was so relieved once it happened. It has been 2 weeks today since surgery for me and my BM's are still not 100% regular, but I am well on my way to being normal...as I can be

I wound up taking a stool softner after every meal. I am 7 weeks post-op and I'm finally starting to be more "regular". My doctor also suggested MOM but I never used it. Taking about 3 or 4 stool softners daily worked for me. They will not hurt or cramp you, but just make it easier for you to go. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, you are all really great. Sunday (yesterday) was not a particularly nice day. Total agony as I finally went. It really was a nasty situation to be in. Looking back I wish I had stopped the percocet earlier, although now i have trouble sleeping. Trust me, not sleeping is nothing in comparison to yesterdays liitle event. Still going to take the stool softeners for a bit longer. One more hurdle over, today is my first full day at work, its 3pm so looks like I am going to make it. All the best to everyone, Gail

Walk, drink water, eat apples, carrots, oatmeal, and vegetables like broccoli and cabbage (lettuce has no fibre). Lack of activity slows the digestive tract down, lack of water makes stools harder, and lack of fibre - well Americans don't get enough fibre anyway-30 grams are recommended, most people eat least than 10, is it any reason we have so much colon trouble (diverticulosis is the norm for seniors in the US according to colonoscopy pictures).

I am 4 (5?) days post op and finally had my first bm today. I have to say that it hurt and I cried and even tried real hard not to throw up. Stool softners, water and my trick was some sips of coffee.
