4 months out and Dr suspects adhesions. Anyone else???

I saw my Dr yesterday and he suspects I may have abdominal adhesions. I have had a constant pain in my belly since my hyst. It hurts most when I press up against something like the kitchen counter. But the pain is always there and am now having some back pain and burning in my hips. I do not want to have another surgery right now. He said I could give it another 8 weeks and see if things improve but if it is adhesions they will not go away on their own. And the only way to diagnose them is to do a lap surgery. Has anyone else had this happen?

hope your symptoms go away and no additional surgery is necessary....but did you ask your doctor why did the adhesions come out and why are they bothering you so soon??

I had adhesions when I had my surgery,, but they never produced me any pain before....I really didnt know that adhesions produced pain.... I pray your pain goes away soon.....

take care....

4 months out and Dr suspects adhesions. Anyone else???

I had adhesions removed 2x in 1995 and May07 before hyster in Jan 08. The ones I had removed last year had attached my ovary to hip somehow. I was in constant pain for 3 months, that is also when fibroids were diagnosed. I have still been really sore in my belly especially leaning against things also. I asked dr last week. He said it could be adhesions again, but to go in and remove could only cause more. I also was having bladder issues at the time, it seems to be a little better this week. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying no more surgery.
Hope you feel better soon!!!

I can't believe that we aren't told about any of this going in.. I too have had pain and to put even the laundry basket by my belly sends me into pain. I think there should be a surgeon's warning... not that we would stop the surgery, but a heads-up would be helpful.

Not everyone gets adhesions. Sometimes you can have them and not even know. Other times they can be VERY painful. Once you have them it is a never ending visious circle. I had my LAVH due to adhesions from 3 previous c-sections. My OB-GYN would tell me how much "scar-tissue" my body would produce at each delivery. I was starting to get a lot of pain around my periods. The Dr. did a pelvic ultrsound and found that my uterus was pushed out of it's position and my ovaries were covered with adhesions. Luckily my Dr. was able to save my ovaries. I wasn't recovering the way I should have been from my surgery. I've had every test you can imagine (unfortunatly, most image testing does not show adhesions). My colonoscopy showed that I have severe diverlticulitis. They "think" it may be from adhesions constricting my colon. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow.
I had never even heard the term "adhesions" until 6 months ago. Now I know more than I ever wanted to know about them.

MY Dr said he didn't know why some get adhesions and some don't (or at least theirs don't cause them any problems). He told me that alot of Drs say adhesions are not painful but his experience with women he has treated that have them say they are. I had never heard of them untill after my surgery. I am sure I would have still made the same choice to have the hyst but it would have been nice to know that this could be a complication. It was my choice to give it another 8 weeks. I really hope he is wrong and that it gets better.

Please let us know what the surgeon says. I will say a prayer for you.

Are you doing anything for the pain? I find heat helps sometimes. I LOVE those thermacare patches that you can put on. I also like hot baths. What kind of medication are you taking for them. One hystersister told me she got relief from Celebrex. I thought they took that off the market but she said no. She said her Dr. told her adhesions have the same type of pain as arthritis and that is what the Celebrex is for. Good Luck. I hope your pain goes away or at least you find a way to manage with it.

Donna,
I am now 10 weeks and have the burning pain in my hips and my belly is still tender. For me, I have no pain inside but my muscles have taken a real beating. Every muscle in my stomach still aches. Where they "stretched" my muscles under my belly button still aches. I have read many posts where ladies are 10 months out and still can't bump their tummy without feeling it. From the many posts, it can take a long time to heal from this - MANY women say six months to a year. I think that's why they say that post-op soreness can linger on for months. There are many that are rollerblading two months later but many more of us that are still healing. Patience for me is so hard - I thought I would have been recovered in six weeks!!
Have you thought of physical therapy?

I have several kinds of pain meds. Problem is, most things make me sick to my stomach. Which is another reason I am not so quick to go through another surgery. I was sick and throwing up for 4 days after my hyst. I had to stay in the hospital for an extra day because I could not keep anything down. I only take something when i sleep.
