6 month post op-Bowel obstruction?

Hey everyone, I haven't visited in quite a while, because everything has been going so well! I'm 27 years old, and I had my LAVH on 11/5, so I'm 6 month post op. I've been going to the bathroom normally this whole time. Well, I haven't had a bowel movement since Sunday, 4/20. I'm not hurting, just really bloated. It's getting difficult to button my pants. I still have an appetite like normal. I hate to take a laxative, because in the past they've made me cramp so bad that I can hardly stand the pain. My question is this: Has anyone here ever had adhesions cause bowel obstruction after a LAPAROSCOPIC hysterectomy? I know that with lap's, the incidence of adhesions is supposed to be way lower than abdominal hysterectomies. I'm trying to find out if I need to be concerned about this being a possibility. Thanks!

I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

It could just be a simple case of constipation but, the longer you leave it, the worse it will be. At 10 days, without a bowel movement, it may be that a OTC laxative won't be effective now anyway.

I don't think you should leave things any longer without trying something or seeking medical attention ~ as soon as possible. As you're concerned about adhesions, why not discuss this with your doctor at the same time?

Will you let us know how you get on? Take care!

Please have this checked. I know that we all hate going back and forth to the doctor and after surgery we want it all to just be over with. Call the doctor and let them know, they can guide you in the right direction. You really should go this long without a bowel movement. I hope you get better.

10 days ! that's amazing. I've been having some constipation issues and reach for the Miralax after 2 or 3 days. I can't believe you don't have pain. I'll be thinking of you. Please keep us posted

10 days does seem long. I hope things have changed by now. Even if they have, you might want to talk to Dr. about methods of preventing this in the future. The longer you wait the harder it gets (no pun intended). Maybe a stool softener along with lots of fruit and vegies? Steer clear of sugars and white foods. They just aggravate the situation.
Please let us know how you are?

6 month post op-Bowel obstruction?

Well, I have kind of good news. I went to the bathroom today! Yay! It wasn't a WHOLE lot, like I expected. I kind of expected a week or two's worth of food to come out, ya know? (sorry, TMI Anyway, I feel a little better--not NEAR as bloated. Sooooo...I'm gonna wait it out, and see how it goes from here. If this happens again, I'm DEFINITELY gonna see the dr to see what's going on. You see, this is way out of the ordinary for me, b/c I don't have my gallbladder (I had it taken out in 2004). So, I'm usually running to the bathroom with diarrhea every other day. Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks so much for your support & prayers! Evidently it helped!
Take care,
