Dark stool 3 weeks post op.... is this normal?

Hello ladies.. Im completely new here and i just want to say, what a relief it is to stumble onto this website, i was getting really sick of googleing my symptoms . I am almost 4 weeks post, and i noticed really dark stool this morning. It said on my doc. orders to call if this happens, but it seems like everytime i call with something that seems serious, it turns out to be something less than that and my doc. prob thinks im crazy. I would like to know if anyone else has this, or has had this issue before i freak out and have to drive 2 hours to visit my doc.

It could be caused from something that you ate. Any other symptoms?

We're glad you've found us, too!

If it said on your instructions that you should call if this happens, then you really should. If your stool is dark (black) then it could be a sign of digested blood. Equally, though, it could be caused by something as simple as iron tablets, as mentioned above.

Please don't leave anything to chance ~ it's always best to err on the side of caution following major surgery. Will you let us know what you find out? Take care!

i had dark (not black ) stool too, it is still dark in color but getting better,.
I would call DR and tell them b/c it can also be something more serious, and you want to make sure it is NOT that... you may even want to save a little and drop it off at the Dr's office.. that way they can test it for blood ....
