Pelvic exam-why?

When I went to refill my hormonme prescription, my gyn did a pelvic first. He said he would be guilty of malpractice if he did not do a pelvic. He does not do a pap test, and since I do not have a uterus, cervix or ovaries, what is the reason for a pelvic? What can possibly checked? I did not even think about asking him this until after I left the office.

Pelvic exam-why?

There are many reasons to do a pelvic, first of all it is really the only way to assess the pelvic floor, second, the tissues of your vagina are similar to that of your cervix and can become cancerous or form polyps/masses. Third it allows your doc to assess the other structures "down there". It is an important part of your well-woman's physical... it is generally recommended that a pevic exam be done yearly - even after total hysterectomy.

Pelvic exam-why?

I agree with the above poster, I was told I only had to have a PAP every 2 to 3 years but I will still have a pelvic to check on me to make sure I dont' have any more prolapses again

Pelvic exam-why?

Thanks for your replies. Now I understand why I still need my yearly exam. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part that I wouldn't have to do it any more. I have had enough poking and prodding down there to last me a lifetime!
