I had no back pain until yesterday, day 21, and yes laying, sitting, and walking hurt so I just kept rotating between all three.

I made sure to take it super easy for the first 6 weeks after what my mom told me.

Three weeks after her hysterectomy she felt so good that she decided to do some vacuuming.....big mistake! She ended up back in the hospital with major bleeding. Her doctor told her that 3 weeks was when he saw most of his patients back in the office.....they tried to do too much too soon. And her hysterectomy was 30 years ago, and she still remembers it!!

The sutures (stitches) are made of Vicryl and dissolve in the average, at 2 weeks. There will be a little bleeding and discharge. You are not at your weakest however I wouldn't be in the gym doing squats with large barbells. Pelvic rest should still be maintained (nothing in the vagina, no tub soaking)I vacuumed 3 days post op. I didn't carry a heavy vacuum, just push and pull it. You put more stress on your incision having a bowel movement. No one needs to overdo activity, but it is unwise to stay in bed. I see more complications back at the hospital for people who have not been active enough-pneumonia, blood clots, pulmonary embolus, ileus, impaction.......I have not seen any return hysterectomy patients hemorraging (I work in a Women's hospital on the gyn surgery floor). I have seen wounds and dehiscience (unravelling of sutures on the outer abdomen) but they were almost invariabley in the morbidly obese patients.
