I had my LAVH Tuesday 5/6 and came home today (5/7). I'm a little sore but not as bad as I thought I would be. I've definitely been groggy though. I'm eating pretty good and drinking. No problems urinating or passing gas....but no BM yet. I'm only spotting which is a HUGE difference! Coughing hurts and sort of burns but using a pillow. Hope everyone is recuperating well too!

Hi everybody! Like Kimberly I had my LAVH done on Tuesday & was home by 4:00 on Wednesday afternoon. I am sore, like someone kicked me in the abdomen with a steel toed boot & it DOES hurt to cough, so I have been using the pillow method on my tummy too. I went to bed at 8:00 pm & woke up around 2:00 am for pain meds, felt good enough to jump on the computer for a minute or two.

Had a PCA pump of Diluadid & Phenergan at the hospital that I could hit every 6 minutes when I was in pain, came home on Percocet. I am walking very slowly, but it does seem to help when I move around. Hurts when I have a gas bubble! Am eating OK...no BM yet.

This kind of pain I can deal with because I know that it is temporary, the "fullness" of my uterus that caused me pain is gone, I can already tell.

The waiting as everyone has said was indeed the hardest part, I am looking forward to a great recovery!

OWwwww.
Had my TAH Monday, was released last night(wed). Forgive any typing errors I don't catch, I'm incredibly punchy & stupid from pain meds. Can't stay awake at puter- or anywhere.
Bladder was fused onto uterus but still took less time than anticipated. Uterus(or fibroid) was the size of a very large grapefruit. Ovaries looked fine and kept.
Came out from anesthesia w/no pain killer...began morphine drip -or so I'm told. Just as I was getting a handle on surgery pain, I began that intense gas buildup pain...Was ready to punch some techs when they'd imply I wasn't really trying to get up...I just wanted to lay one on her right in HER abdomen and invite her to have it cut out of her, then show me how well SHE uses her abs! Didn't want to eat because it felt like my intestines were all bloated ...finally had a suppository to help...even that was taking to long, so I just kept walking the halls unil something gave. Can't type anymore right now...sleeping as I do.

I don't why this is, but I just can't seem to ever have a "normal" experience with anything, and surgery is no exception. I was supposed to go in for a "simple" TVH on 5/5. Yeah, right. My doc went in and started the procedure as he intended, but apparently my uterus was very enlarged, so he had to open my abdomen to remove it that way. When he did start to remove it, he said it was covered externally in some very large fibroids and it seems that I had a couple of "bleeders" that started spouting while he was trying to remove everything. Since they were way behind and under my uterus and blood was everywhere, he said there were a couple of minutes that were very scary for me with uncontrolled bleeding. So, I ended up having a TAH, and now I have to work very hard on getting my iron and blood count back up since I'm down "about a quart and 1/2" according to my doctor. He said he's never had such excitement before and I told him I'm glad I gave him a good story.
I was having trouble passing gas and having good "tones" until a few minutes ago and feel a lot better, but I do have to change my mindset and face recovery in a different way now than when I was looking at it just a few days ago. Considering everything that happened, I'm doing well and I'm glad to be home finally and I'm going to keep myself drugged for a couple of days to prevent myself from overdoing it. I did too much moving around in the hospital and it made me kind of ill. I'm glad I got this done and already some of my back pains have disappeared (probably from pressure from the fibroids) and I'm healing pretty well. Healthy healing to all ofyou!

Seems my uterus made a pact with my intestines to continue giving me a hard time after it was gone...the gas pains are incredible, I need to "go" whenever I'm NOT near the toilet, but the minute I sit, I can't. I even wait there long enough for leg to go numb...If anything just a teaser. I'm not contipated in the sense that you think, it is really just gas and liquid, (probably leftover from that stupid magnesium citrate bowel prep the day before). But the rumblies and gas move around cause pain and yet won't exit. I'm kinda miserable.I walk to get things going, I'm trying to drink & eat though I gotta admit I'm not too thrilled with the idea of putting even MORE in there to rumble. I'll say it again...OWWWW

Well today I had a little bit of a fever (100.5) so I took my 800mg of Ibuprofen and I sweat it out. My pain is minimal at the moment. Earlier the gas made it worse but I finally got rid of it.....just wish I could have a BM so I will feel a little more normal again. I have definitely slept a lot today but I have hardly spotted at all. It's really hard to just 'take it easy' when you are used to doing everything but I'm making myself stay on the couch!

I had LAVH on Wednesday afternoon 5/7 and came home late this afternoon. I am doing OK. Moderate pain when I sit for too long, and going pee is an adventure. I have to be patient and not force the urine out, but just wait for it to come. I'm having lots of bladder pain/spasms which kind of surprised me.

It is good to be home! My own bed feels wonderful!
