Muscle twitches 4 weeks post op

Anyone else having this problem. I am not taking any pain meds. It has been almost 4 weeks since my TAH. I have frequent muscle twitches in my arms, legs, hands. Of course I go on WebMD and drive my self crazy that it could be all kinds of different things. It has only started since my surgery. Any one else????

I'm sorry you're experiencing this and hope that other ladies will be along soon to share.

If you try a Google Search of HysterSisters (towards the top right of this page) you'll find a number of threads to read through. Here's a link to one to start you off:

Please don't hesitate to contact your doctor if it doesn't improve.

Sending all good wishes and I hope it settles down very soon!

I have not had anything like that so far but my mother (who had a very serious heart surgery in the 1970's) told me not to worry if I did, she said she had someothing like you are describing off and on for a few years after her surgery and even now will have an occasional twitch every few years. I agree to ask the doctor, hopefully it is just something quirky like my moms!
Best Wishes

Hi Rooster 828

I have twitches all the time... called "benign fasciculations." Not sure if it's what you are experiencing, but it's more like small areas of muscle fibers firing, not the spasm of a whole muscle (unless it's my thumbs). Lots of folks get them ... like in their calves after a strenuous workout, or maybe the twitching eyelid deal. Same type thing. (My calves twitch literally constantly. - Rarely large enough to see through my clothing, but if you look at the skin you can see little areas firing, like random lightening strikes only they are completely painless. Arms and face only occasionally - legs and feet all the time. (Yes, it's weird.)

I've seen lots of women who mention noticing these post-op. My neurologist said benign fasciculations can be made worse after meds, anesthesia, surgery and any physical or emotional stress to the body. I, personally, haven't met anyone who continues to have these the way I do. I'm guessing it's probably because they are just transient for most folks. Like you, I read scary stuff on the net about the possibility of ALS etc, and had scared myself silly. What you are describing might be totally different, but thought I'd share just in case. Either way, hopefully your GYN will have reassurance for you and they'll go away soon.

Good luck at your appointment.
Please keep us posted.

Thanks Beth,
It sounds like what I am having. Every so often my arm or leg will jerk. It freaks me out. I am sure I am focusing on it alot because I am not sure what it is. It makes me feel better that others are also experiencing it. I'll let you know what the dr says. Rooster 828
